Upgrade with avios
I think this is new. It is well known that IB often offers the possibility to upgrade with money at check-in, or to bid for an upgrade.
Today I have received an email offering a slightly different option. I can reply and have the opportunity to upgrade to Business Plus in my ORD-MAD flight (in a couple of weeks) for € 500 or 71600 avios. This is not a good deal (booking J outright was cheaper and in fact I booked the return MAD-JFK leg on J for only € 200 more than the economy fare), but I thought I'd mention it, since I hadn't seen the possibility to upgrade a discount economy booking with avios before...

I would probably jump on the 500 euros for a one-way upgrade, particularly for an overnight flight.
But the Avios offer is very naughty, considering it's only 40K for an award ticket one-way in Business.
