Update in Hyatt BRG policy (April 2019): If your BRG claim is approved, you can choose either 5,000 World of Hyatt points or an additional 20% off the matched rate for your stay (defined as consecutive nights at the same location). Rates available on websites that require membership which is free of charge, or where membership is automatically created as part of the booking, are eligible for BRG claims.

.................................................. ..........

Recent Experiences Using the BRG (2018 and later)

YES
  • Hotels.com - April 2019
  • Booking.com - May 2019

MAYBE
  • Skoosh - April 2019 (initially rejected as "membership site" but approved on appeal)
NO
  • SnapTravel
.................................................. ..........

Update in Hyatt BRG policy (July 2017): if your BRG claim is approved, Hyatt will match the comparable lower rate, but will no longer offer a further 20% discount on the matched lower rate. Instead, after your stay on the BRG approved rate, you will receive a US$50 credit (or equivalent amount in the currency of your country of residence) to use on a future stay (completed within 12 months) booked on a Standard Rate, Advance Purchase Rate or Member Rate on Hyatt.com.

Q. How do I receive the $50 credit?
A. About 3-4 days after your BRG stay, Hyatt will email you a unique rate code to apply for your new reservation. You can either click on the link in the mail to book the reservation or manually enter it into the booking at Hyatt.com.

Q. Can I use the code more than once?
A. No. The code is invalid when it has already been attached to a reservation.

Q. Can I use the code to lower a rate like AAA or Double Points?
A. No. The BRG code books into its own unique rate class and can't be used with any other promotional rates.

Q. What happens if I cancel my reservation with the BRG code applied?
A. The code will can be re-used for another reservation. For this reason, DO NOT DELETE THE EMAIL FROM HYATT UNTIL AFTER YOUR STAY.

Q. What happens if a lower base rate appears available after I book the BRG rate?
A. You can cancel the first reservation (assuming there's no penalty) and then rebook using the code for the lower rate.

.................................................. ..........

If you are dissatisfied with the response to your BRG claim, and it was processed by the Hyatt Service Desk in Omaha (9805 Q Street), you can consider filing a consumer complaint (link to online form) with the Nebraska Attorney General's Office (Consumer Protection Division). Note that the online complaint form requires you to fill in a correspondence address in the US (though you can state a preference to receive correspondence by e-mail rather than by post). As reported in Post # 2691, if the AG's Office decides to investigate, it is possible that Hyatt will review your BRG claim again and, in addition, offer points for the inconvenience.

If your BRG claim was processed by the Hyatt Service Desk in Marion (1120 North Carbon Street Suite 70), you can consider filing a consumer complaint (link to online form) with the Illinois Attorney General's Office.

First timer with the BRG (new Diamond via a trial). Hyatt website was advertising $219/night at the HR San Francisco for this weekend. Found it on Kayak for $195.18. BRG was effortless down to $156.14. That's cheaper than the AAA rate I was considering for the next weekend. Topped that off with an expiring Diamond upgrade cert and got a confirmed Balcony Suite!

^^^^^^^^ to you!!! After reading your post I looked at aa.com and found the HR San Fran for an avg of $158.66/night (it was listed as the "Spotlight Deal"), cheaper than my BRG from last night after the 20%.

As expected, met a little resistance because $158.66 is a couple bucks more expensive than my current BRG rate. I reasoned with them that if I were to book a brand new reservation today they would honor the BRG to the new rate so I shouldn't be penalized for having already done a BRG to a slightly lower rate.

She listened, went to talk to someone, and agreed. In the end, they had to do a whole new reservation anyways. Apparently they can't do two guarantees on the same reservation. She was very pleasant thru the whole thing, kept apologizing for the delays, transferred over all the notes on my reservation and the Diamond Upgrade cert. She is also calling the hotel directly to let them know about the change in reservation numbers. Excellent CS! I'm liking Hyatt more and more.

End rate = $126.93

Good work! Glad to see you're getting the most out of your Hyatt membership. Have a nice time in the lounge at HR SF!

Good BRG experience today:
1 night GH Doha - price reduced from 1150 QAR (£200) to 469.89 QAR (£82) matching octopus.com rate
2 nights GH Dubai - price reduced from 1050 AED/night (£181) to 465.96 AED (£80) matching tripsta.co.uk rate

question: the rate on tripsta was a B+B rate. Should my BRG rate also be B+B? I didn't want to ask in case it invalidated the BRG claim.

Good decision in not asking for a B&B rate on the BRG - when the rate is "packaged" with breakfast / tax etc - it is not eligible to be used for BRG (at least formerly - it sounds like they've loosened up the BRG policy somewhat - I did mention this to Jeff Zidell some time back).

I just got a BRG for the Grand Hyatt DFW for $102.60 for a weekend night in May.

It seems like the process has improved significantly over the past few years. I can remember being denied previously for differences in the cancellation time of day (3pm vs. 4pm), but this time I was all done in under 3 minutes.

This is an outstanding tip - thanks very much! ^^

I have been frustrated with Hyatt BRGs in the past (esp. in comparison to SPG, where once you understand the rules, the BRG process can be quite smooth), and I was glad to see this sailed through without much hassle (even though I had to be on hold for nearly 30 min).

Thanks again!

I can read mixed expericed about the Hyatt BRG.

On the one hand it seems to be some silly trick which is not honored like Hilton or Marriott in Europe.

On the other hand it seems to give cases where Hyatt accepts the cheaper rates and plays fair like SPG.

BRG honored for hyatt orlando airport. For some reasons, all the usual suspects dropped their price today, and hyatt.com stayed high, so I booked today and we made the call. Lots of different websites to choose from, but aa.com seemed to do the trick. Booked rate: $169. AA.com rate: $105. Adjusted rate: $85.

Does the BRG apply to rates booked under the guaranteed availibility, Hyatt claims no, but I find nothing in the T&C for that.

Thank you for the post. I was only able to get the MCO Hyatt for $105 after BRG.
