FFN Availability

How easily are these FFN nights redeemed? Do you ever have luck at some of Hyatt's signature properties in Chicago or New York???

In the past they have the same availability as standard awards. NYC, Chicago, of course. You have to plan and book as far in advance as possible to get the dates you want. Also availability sometimes opens up at the last minute.

does one have to have an FFN in their account to reserve an FFN stay at a property?

If you have points in your account, you can book the nights you want if they are available. In the past, agents have always let us convert points stays to FFN redemption.

Park Hyatt Chicago is unavailable two Saturdays I checked in October but is available both Sundays. I have historically found it a difficult property to redeem at, whether points or FFNs, on Saturdays.

That has not always been my experience. Sometimes FFNs were not available on the same Fri/Sat/Sun nights that standards (not Passport Plus) WERE available. I remember that specifically in Tokyo, where I sent a note to the GM asking him to allow the use of an FFN (he agreed).

However, I've never had a problem when I pledged points first, then later asked the Diamond Desk to convert to an FFN.

Perhaps I am wrong but I think this arrangement is only available to diamonds.

Even as a diamond I was turned down several times in the last FFN, when I called to sub a FFN for standard points. In each instance I was able to get it done eventually by calling back. I believe it's important to ask customer service rather than reservations, but YMMV.

This is key. I have never had CS say no when I have asked. A couple times, I inadvertently made this request with reservations and was denied (I would then immediately call Diamond CS, and get it taken care of right away).
Many others have reported similar experiences.

I never had had a problem converting. The "secret" is having enough points in your account to reserve them NOW and "earn" them later. I will be using 8 FFN: 4 PH Tokyo & 4 Andaz London this year.

trd,

You prefer the Andaz London? I prefer London Churchill.
