AAA rates and the website

AAA rates and the website
I apologize if this has been covered already. I did a search for "AAA" and couldn't find a recent related topic.
When attempting to find a room on the website using the AAA rate option, various options came up. I went through the entire process of booking and entered my credit card information. On the last page, I was told the rate is unavailable. I called up and booked a room on the phone using the regular rate since that's the only thing that was available. I have a 14 day cancellation policy on the booking so I assume I can rebook if I find a lower price.
I have two questions:
1. Is that typically how the site works?
2. I couldn't find an AAA rate availability policy on hyatt.com. For AAA rates, are certain dates just blocked off or could availability open up as the date gets closer?
