Just got a pretty great Explorist upgrade at a Hyatt House in Orlando across for Universal Studios. Booked a base level king “den” room for $100ish (pretty much just a normal non-kitchen hotel room) and got upgraded to an honestly massive suite with a separate kitchen w bar table, living room, and bedroom. It’s on a corner with 4 windows and 3 TVs and probably the nicest room I’ve ever had at a limited service priority.
I know HH and HP aren’t required to upgrade but the guy checking me in said it was due to my status. Unfortunately only staying here for a night, but was so pleasantly surprised nonetheless. |
I've gotten MANY upgrades with Explorist, but never to a suite. Base standard rooms to high floor rooms was almost a given, I even was given an "upgrade" by a front desk person at a Hyatt Place while on a road trip in California, where they had no suites, but he proudly told me he had upgraded me to their "best room" which was basically a corner ADA room which was both corner and quite large, which was the best they had :) I took it. Was upgraded from a standard king to a high floor on the same floor as our friends at the Jeju Grand Hyatt (in Korea) who got a MASSIVE SUITE with panoramic views (upgraded from a king club room) as Globalists. So yeah, Globalist blew away our Explorist, but we still got a decent upgrade.
I think Explorist basically is a guarantee you won't get the crappiest room in the hotel if you book a standard room, unless the hotel is literally totally sold out. I've never gotten a bad room as an Explorist at any Hyatt except for the Andaz West Hollywood - that was not a great room. I'm now a new Globalist but have only stayed at one hotel so far - in LA. Was upgraded to a much bigger room but not a suite (they were totally sold out of suites that weekend). I will have all of next year to test out Globalist. We shall see! |

I too just had my first stay as a Globalist (a 2-night stay this past weekend at the Hyatt Regency in Portland, OR.) I was upgraded to a suite on the top floor with a great city view. Hoping to get some other good ones next year! |
I was Explorist in 2017 and again for a few months in 2021. The short answer is no, not really. You get slightly more bonus points than you did at Discoverist but it moves the needle very little. The "upgrades" you get are to corner rooms, queens to kings etc. and aren't worth much either. It's a fairly useless mid tier status especially compared to say Hilton Gold. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it.

2 additional nights needed for Explorist - worth it?
I’m currently a Hyatt Globalist and will be short a couple of nights by 12/31 to qualify for Hyatt Explorist.
A couple of nights would cost around $150-$200 at local Hyatts using day stays, but I’m honestly not really seeing a lot of benefits of attaining Explorist. Questions: - Do daytime stays (OFFICE offer code) still count for night stays? - Is it worth spending $150-200 to achieve Explorist? Thanks in advance! |
You’ll also get a cat 1-4 award when hitting Explorist. If you think you will use that award within 6 months at a very expensive hotel, maybe it’s worth spending $400 for a mattress run.
I feel like it is probably not worth it though. |
It's not worth it to constantly chase status.
HOWEVER, if you are naturally staying in hotels around the nights needed to qualify or if you think you'll be traveling to places with Hyatt more often next year, then it may be worth going for the 2 extra nights (or spend an extra 5k on the credit card) |

You also get matched MGM Gold status which is very worthwhile.

In 2023 I have 1 single stay where I am using a TSU for 6 nights where a suite is absolutely needed. The difference in the room to suite cost in points the cost difference is 103,000, in cash the cost is $1,876 (pre-tax), that’s just the upgrade cost from room to suite. So I would say in that one stay alone it justifies it. YMMV |

That's only if you hit 50 nights and above. Anything less than 50 nights isn't worth the constant chase, unless of course if you are already close.
Points bonus, Better Upgrades (many reports of suite upgrades even at select properties), MGM Gold Status, Category 1-4 Certificate and so on. |
Does Hyatt not give previous globs a soft landing to Explorist? In any case, if they are already a glob they need not retain Explorist to maintain their MGM Gold. In fact, they ought to be able to maintain Explorist by matching back from Gold. Which means we are all probably burying the lead here.
OP, you can match to MGM Gold if you haven't done so already, and then match back to Hyatt Explorist without ever staying another night if you don't want to. But remember, matching will not give you any milestone awards. |

Also if OP does a 2 night MR they’d get double points on that stay too which may bring down net cost. |

Of course you never know, it is feasible that an explorist may have a stay with multiple rooms where it does come in handy to have a bunch of these. |

Plus 2 more club access awards they can toss onto the pile of useless club access awards they likely already have stashed away.
