I definitely feel like hotels try to go above and beyond for Explorists especially when occupancy is low enough to where giving a suite leaves a great impression with nothing lost for the property.
Also, don’t forget to match to MLife. The trial Explorist program won't match to MLife. I tried. |

Were these proactive upgrades or did you ask?

There have been a lot more upgrades and things with Explorist now at properties that aren’t busy even Suite upgrades I’ve seen but YMMV.

Explorists gets you better non-suite rooms. Moving from a bleh room (eg. low floor, but with DISC, probably not the worst room next to a noisy hvac/loading dock) to potentially one of the best non-suite rooms in the house is a nice step up.
Personally I think the status is worthwhile for the 4 lounge upgrade certs. But that assumes (1j lounge is open (not often the case during pandemic) and (2) the properties you frequent have lounges. |
I average 30-35 Hyatt nights per year, so Explorist is the norm for me (currently at 30 nights this year.) I would say that I get a room upgrade of some sort (a view, a larger corner room, etc.) 75% of the time. Hyatt House properties almost always upgrade me from the normal "studio" room that I book to their 1-bedroom suite. I usually get a suite upgrade 2 or 3 times a year at full-service Hyatts, so those don't come very frequently. Those properties are the ones that usually put me into a better view or corner room (or no upgrade at all.)
When club lounges were open, the four annual upgrade certificates were definitely the best perk, and I made full-use of them when traveling with my family. At least for me, there's definitely a noticeable difference between Discoverist and Explorist. |

correct. I almost always get a decent high floor quiet room. Personally I think the status is worthwhile for the 4 lounge upgrade certs. But that assumes (1j lounge is open (not often the case during pandemic) and (2) the properties you frequent have lounges.

Nice to see the occasional Suite upgrade. I know with Explorist it’s definitely not something to be expected but it’s also something that’s definitely nice when it happens.

Are you a repeat guest at the full-service Hyatts where you received suite upgrades? Just curious. I did not ever receive a suite upgrade as an Explorist, but there were probably only 3 or 4 stays where that could have even been possible.

I'm only 917 base points away from Explorist ... and still not sure I want to bother making the effort.
|
For what it’s worth, I just completed my first stay as a Explorist. I was staying at the MCO Regency and I was proactively upgraded from the base level, interior atrium facing rooms to a room with a huge balcony facing the runways.
I’ll be one short of requalifying for Explorist at the end of the year, and I’m considering looking for a cheap HP just so I’m able to match status thru M-Life and restrain at least Explorist for the foreseeable future. I’m doing the Explorist trial so I’m currently not able to status match. |
"protection" on site at hotel during stay. Explorer
I think that if you have a legitimate issue , legitimate problem at a hotel and address during the stay, It Will be taken care of to your satisfaction.
A frivolous or even a "reaching " complaint NO. Moreover I don't think even Globalist is so super super valuable unless you hit threshold / milestone nights. All these reduced American Airline elite fasttrack and half the normal qualification are a way ro put "wallet candy " in your pocket and just breakfast. They are outsmarting us. In the golden old day SPG PLAT was very valuable even for someone who did not stay a lot the following year. |

First year hitting Globalist, so been an Explorist for quite some time. Honestly had better luck in Europe and Asia when it comes to upgrades.

The gap between Globalist and Explorist for at-hotel benefits is wider outside of North America than in North America, but that's been sort of typical of US hotel loyalty programs for quite some time and then some. Perhaps the geographic gap will sort of follow the path of what happened in the airline industry, but for now it is still what it is: a pretty substantial difference, but more so outside of North America than inside North America. |
Just got a pretty great Explorist upgrade at a Hyatt House in Orlando across from Universal Studios. Booked a base level king “den” room for $100ish (pretty much just a normal non-kitchen hotel room) and got upgraded to an honestly massive suite with a separate kitchen w bar table, living room, and bedroom. It’s on a corner with 4 windows and 3 TVs and probably the nicest room I’ve ever had at a limited service property.
I know HH and HP aren’t required to upgrade but the guy checking me in said it was due to my status. Unfortunately only staying here for a night, but was so pleasantly surprised nonetheless. |
