Just had a three night stay here last week as a glob and didn’t get upgraded as the hotel was completely booked (checked via app day before). The room was small for two twin beds. The beds were FIRM, which didn’t sleep well with me. I took a few pics of the breakfast, which isn’t as great (very wet eggs, hash browns sticks, yogurt, and pastry items). I’ve included pics below for anyone looking forward to these items.

I’m not sure if it was because my body was in shock staying 7 nights at a single hotel, but I left the Hyatt Place Kyoto quite satisfied. It’s not perfect, but it worked with my budget and had a nice location. Here are my impressions:
Pros:
Neutral:
Cons:
Overall, I would return. I love Kyoto so much. I will say, don't sleep on the mackarel here. Loved it during a stay last year and hope it's still good as well. Was also glad I had the JR pass as this made a great home base to visit Nara and Osaka (several times).

just my opinion: wet eggs are not my favorite, but i put them over curry+rice during my visit, and it was a great way to start the morning.

Did they still have the delicious yogurts with fruit on top?

just checked in and found out theres no free breakfast... i assumed since it was a hyatt place there was. the free breakfast was the only reason i chose to stay here over regency. the room is also pretty small, good for one person.

I enjoyed my stay as well, as a mere Discoverist, due to Hyatt not having enough properties, I booked with Chase points converted to Hyatt points. Got a room with the "courtyard" view, aka a view of the opposite corridor wall, which didn't bother us given the hotel's central Kyoto location, we didn't feel like we were missing any sort of view. The only thing I wish we had was a bathtub for soaking tired feet from too much walking and standing. But we did like that the shower had an actual door and it actually sealed properly, meaning no water all over the floor like many other hotels (particularly the US I suppose, and Europe). The biggest unanticipated bonus was the busses to Karasuma Marutamachi are not nearly as busy as busses that pass through Kyoto Station, and many tourist sites were a single no-transfer bus ride away. Very different from previous visits where I've stayed elsewhere or at the Shin-Osaka Courtyard. The two Nespresso machines in the lobby turned out to be an annoyance at times because they would frequently run out of milk and less frequently water. The one in the lobby on the left often would dispense milk but not coffee. The one on the right broke one evening, seems like the milk module died as they disabled it the day after. I assume the restaurant area had additional/different coffee machines as we never saw anyone coming from there. We typically had onigiri for breakfast from 7-11 which we were totally happy with so never experienced the restaurant. Overall, we paid the equivalent of $200 USD a night, and we were completely satisfied at this price point. |
Does this hotel now assist with restaurant reservations? I contacted the Amex concierge because I did not believe the Hyatt would assist from the comments I read here, and they sent me an email with a "Hyatt Place Kyoto reservation consent form" that requires adding your credit card like hotels with dedicated concierges. They asked me to send the form to the Hyatt Place Kyoto directly and then let them know when I had done so.

Does anyone know if this hotel allows checkout via the app? I will be staying at the HR Kyoto but have a flight from KIX leaving close to midnight. As the HR is unlikely to give a late checkout I was thinking of making a booking here to use prior to departing for the airport. Being a bit cheeky I was hoping to get a night's stay credit but if I have to check out in person around 9.00 PM this is unlikely to happen.

Wrapped up an eight night stay here. There's a long term stay rate that, along with the yen being cheap, it's a great deal. This is my second time here.
- There are no yogurt bowls for breakfast, but mackerel was still delicious with curry. - The staff were super friendly as always. I brought them some snacks from my previous destination, and I think they noted it in my profile; every time I stopped by the front desk, they would say thank you to me. - No upgrades for globalist; stayed in a normal king room which was still large for Japan standards. - The laundry machine was ¥400 for washing up to 6KG and ¥100 for every 30 minutes of drying. - The bar is still open. There are some simple cocktails. - The hotel has Yamato service and could help me ship my suitcase to Tokyo for around ¥2000-3000. - Make sure to ask for a room facing away from the street if you are a light sleeper. I will definitely come back. This is such a clean and upscale Hyatt Place in such a great location! |
