Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid (Q4/2019)

Hyatt Regency brand coming to Madrid, as well, in Q4/2019

https://newsroom.hyatt.com/news-releases?item=123802

CHICAGO (March 4, 2019) Hyatt Hotels Corporation (NYSE: H) has announced today that a Hyatt affiliate has entered into franchise agreements with an affiliate of Hesperia Hotels & Resorts to open Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid and Hyatt Regency Barcelona Fira. The hotels mark the entry of the Hyatt Regency brand into Spain and signify Hyatt’s continued growth in the country.

Both hotels will undergo significant renovations and will be available on Hyatt’s booking system as Hyatt affiliated hotels beginning June 2019. The properties, Hesperia Madrid Hotel and Hesperia Barcelona Tower, are scheduled to be fully rebranded by Q4 2019. This will bring the total number of Hyatt branded hotels in Spain to five, joining Park Hyatt Mallorca, Hyatt Centric Gran Via Madrid and the recently announced Hotel Sofia Barcelona.

Focused on seamless, intuitive experiences, Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid will be located on one of Madrid’s most iconic avenues, the Paseo de la Castellana. The 170-room hotel will be in close proximity to businesses, banks and embassies along with luxury retail shops and historic sites. Guests will be able to enjoy spacious meeting rooms, a club lounge, and a locally inspired restaurant and bar. With Madrid being one of Spain’s most significant commercial centers, Hyatt Regency Hesperia Madrid will confidently cater to business travelers, providing a full range of services and amenities and facilitating meaningful connections.

I've stayed at this hotel in its current form. It's physically quite nice, but the location is abysmal which is reflected in rock bottom rates.

This is essentially an airport hotel, so I wonder if Hyatt will brand it that way.

This is good news, but...what I really want is for the 4 SLH hotels in Madrid to participate in Hyatt!

This is very interesting. I thought that Hesperia was a brand in its own rights, so I wonder whether this is just the tip of the iceberg for the rest of Hesperia's hotels joining Hyatt or other international chains...

Airport hotel? No, it's a hotel for the convention centre. The hotel is closer to the city centre than the airport, especially Terminal 1.

I will be thrilled to have a cheap Hyatt near me though, especially if the Hyatt promos are going with the stupid "starting from second stay" policy...

Looks like it will have a Regency Club lounge as well.

Any new info? How about the location for tourists? Apparently a 15 minute subway ride to tourist destinations?

I made a reservation for February.

Two friends of mine just stayed there and were happy with the hotel. One is a globalist and was upgraded to a suite. They liked the staff and the lounge. They said they took taxis - but that the metro was close.

One Night Stay - Nice Hotel; Would Consider Return

I had a one night Guest of Honor award stay here (9/14 - 9/15); overall, it was a good stay, and I would definitely consider returning.

Accessibility:
Getting to the hotel is no problem - from Barajas airport, take the Metro line 8 to Nuevos Ministerios and then transfer to Metro line 10 to Gregorio Manaron (1 stop). The hotel is almost directly above Gregorio Manaron (~200 m walk).

Location:
The hotel is about a 30 min Metro/Bus ride from the Prado and Retiro park but is very close to the Natural Science museum. Overall, the hotel is located in a more business-district area of Madrid. When we were there, the area around the hotel was fairly sleepy (many shops were closed and restaurants did not open until 1-1:30).

Check In / Rooms:
I checked in around 11 PM, and check-in was a breeze. Since I was on a GOH stay, I was upgraded to a corner suite on the 6th floor overlooking the street in front of the hotel. In the room was a half bottle of Crianza Rioja wine, a note from the hotel, a small fruit plate, and 2 chocolates (1 dark, 1 milk) from the turndown service. Hyatt Regency branding is prevalent around the hotel; the bathroom had the Pharmacopia-branded toiletries and contained both a shower and a tub. Room was clean and spacious.

The continental breakfast for Globalists and GOHs is supposed to be in the Hyatt Regency club on the 1st floor, but I was escorted to the restaurant when I went downstairs the next morning. Awkwardly, my GF who came down after me was escorted to the actual club, but she presented the business card that contained the breakfast details to the person running the host stand. My breakfast was outstanding; the restaurant buffet spread had eggs, bacon, sausage, Iberico ham, and various pastries. The club breakfast was a continental (no hot items) and had a more limited selection of cold cuts. Regardless, no breakfast charges appeared on the bill.

Overall - I liked this hotel (aside from the awkward breakfast issue) and would return if convenient. The fact that this was only 12K points (normally 15K as a Cat 4) as opposed to the 17K (normally 20K as a Cat 5) Gran Via Hyatt made this better.

It became a normal Hyatt hotel with the name Hotel Hesperia Barcelona Tower. So it will be one of the 7 Hyatt properties outside the US and please be informed, that there are only 17 worldwide. So I recommend to ge the catch, also if it's just one night for the brand explorer.
Yes, I'm an Explorist with lounge passes. Interesting that the hotel would now code as a "Hyatt" for the brand explorer award. My problem is that I already earned the "easy" first brand explorer award. I'm not sure I can get to 10 different brands to get the second award: most of these brands are pretty hard to find.
