For those who have a chance at Globalist (raising hand), I bet a lot are...for those who just want an alternate chain and live in the US, I would guess more Hilton (getting top tier status for free w/ a CC is compelling)

SPG master ledger is great for analysis...I hit 100 nights w/Starwood every year but one post-Ambassador program - average annual spend was $18K. Only one of those years did I actually pass $100K. And I spend a lot of time in bigger cities & had a $215 lifetime ADR wStarwood.

But now...spend a ton of money for a heavily weakened Ambassador experience (and a Your24 benefit that is a shell of what it used to be)? No thanks.

I just read the details of the Milestone Awards. There is something for every 10 nights, starting with 2 Club Access Awards at 20 nights. This makes it fun having something tangible to go after on the way to any level. A lot more fun than Marriott Bonvoy.

I can be a nice guy and gift friends and family Club Access on their stays that are not GoH.

Can I ask which cat 1-4 had a $400 rate? That's really high.

I love Hyatt but my biggest complaint is the cat 1-4 certs. I find them extremely hard to use. I'm splitting an upcoming 4-night stay in Tokyo over 2 hotels just to use 2 certs before they expire. It's extremely inconvenient.

Ocean Casino in AC - $50 during the week, $350 ($400 with taxes then $20 resort fee) on Saturdays and yes I recognize this is an outlier

With this Hyatt cert, I can also get a quality HR or Centric in downtown Chicago...with the Marriott one, I am getting a mediocre limited service offering. YMMV but big difference.

If you're a Glob, you won't get the Club Access awards. The T&Cs also prohibit gifting them ...

Here are a bunch of reactions to the comments in this thread, based on the perspective of a SPG LTP and MR LTP (now Starriott/Bonvoy LTT with Ambassador service earned before August 1st under the new requirements of 100+ nights and $20,000+ spend) who has also been HGP Diamond and not WOH Glob for close to ten years:

In the OP, note that 500 WOH points are worth a lot less than 500 Starpoints were. Moreover, not many Hyatts offer the green choice option. I've seen it at a HH but I can't recall other Hyatt properties that had the door card in the room. However, my more recent stays have mostly been higher brands such as Andaz so this might make a difference in green choice availability. I can also mention that despite the recycle multibin trash cans in rooms, I often see housekeepers mixing my carefully sorted trash all together.

Unfortunately, all too often suite upgrades at Hyatts, including many of those that are the best categories that can be confirmed with TSUs (former DSUs) are just junior suites. To me, one large room isn't really a suite even if it has a nice luxurious bathroom and a separate sitting area. They're certainly better than standard rooms (that I'm required to book if the stay is being reimbursed), but it's not a real suite and a disappointing use of upgrade instruments. OTOH, with SPG until last year I was able to use all of my SNAs and unless they were about to expire, I never checked a junior suite category. It's good that Hyatt now shows on many hotel booking websites which are standard and which are premium suites, although I wish this were required for all Hyatt properties.

Not that long ago, the transition to WOH seemed to be a mess and many of us were unhappy about the now program, including new elite level names. Is it better to be a Glob that a Tit?

My long term Private Line Agent was absolutely wonderful, but the several (mostly the one I have now) My Hyatt Concierges have been disappointing in comparison, although it's far easier to communicate and get a response from her than from my assigned Ambassador.

Hyatt lifetime Diamond/Glob status based only on lifetime base points seems harder than SPG LTP or even MR legacy LTP with its points requirement, but lifetime with Hyatt confers more benefits, including those TSUs every year (so far).

I still resent the way WOH certs expire. IMO it was totally unfair that someone staying a lot in early 2017 earned free night certs and TSUs that expired so early. Now the program is a little better but IMO they owe me......

I don't go to resorts often--mostly the odd property where one wouldn't expect a resort/destination fee--but I love not having to worry about those junk charges as a Glob staying at any rate that earns nights credits (including award stays). I wish the free parking on award stays benefit for Globs were extended to encompass reduced parking charges (self or valet) for Globs staying overnight and paying rates that earn night credits.

Overall the Hyatt program is much complex that Starriott with all of the exceptions (resort breakfasts, RC lounge, LC lounge at some properties, RC breakfast, legacy SPG versus legacy SPG, etc.). Starriott/Bonvoy's thirty brands seem ridiculous, although I hope that the legacy Starwood and legacy MR brands are never combined as the origin of the hotel is very informative. It's more the difference between Fairfield Inn and Springhill Suites that I find puzzling despite having joined the Marriott program way back, probably within a couple years after it started (late 1980s?).

With both programs, I'm annoyed by the emphasis on targeted promotions, although this started under HGP and SPG.

I'm also annoyed that most of the special promotional rates are higher than standard AAA etc. rates. I greatly miss the Hyatt "my elite rate" benefit, and I still remember and resent the fact that we were prevented from voting for it to receive a FT award.

Currently Hyatt cancellation deadlines are more clear and I like the (unpublished?) Glob benefit of being able to cancel one day later. In principle, I like the way Starriott nonrefundable reservations can be cancelled within 24 hours, although I never use nonrefundable rates unless I'm already past the normal cancellation deadline when I make the reservation. I always appreciated the way Starwood clearly stated the deadline in local hotel time rather than the Marriott way of just saying by date XXX.

I perceive more enhancements (cutbacks) happening at Starriott hotels.

Glob at 55-60 nights is hard given the footprint, but it helps that Hyatt now (also) counts award nights and that TSUs can be used on award stays. Previously I had been forced to use the Hyatt form of cash and points for some reservations even though it might not have been a good use of HGP points. Now a similar issue arises for premium suite upgrades or even regular suite upgrades with points as special rates such as AAA cannot be used for these.

I'm annoyed that Hyatt gives the same or better benefits on Prive reservations as it gives to Globs. Alternatively, I wish I could book special rate plans such as AAA under the Prive program.

I only posted this when I received 2 Club Access Awards. Check your account when you have 20 nights.

I was surprised when I saw the 2 Club Access Awards deposited in my account on Feb. 28, exp. 2/28/2021. This could only be for the 20 night milestone,YTD 23 nights. I then read the details of the Milestone Awards and indeed anyone regardless of status can earn these awards. The T&C also clarified that if you qualify for elite status tiers between 1/1/2019 and 2/28/2019, then you will receive the awards for the tier but no additional Milestone Award up to that level.

I read the T&C stating these upgrade awards are for personal use only and cannot be gifted, so technically Club Access Awards are then useless for Globalists. When I called Hyatt, I was told I can gift them. We'll find out when a Globalist tries to do this.

I see that a few Globs have now reported getting the Club Access awards. I'm at 26 nights YTD, and when I asked about the awards, I was told I wouldn't get them as a Glob. I'll cross 30 nights next week ... I wonder if I'll see 2 awards then ?

Would be super cool if we can gift them!!! Or... at least use them for, say, a 2nd room we have booked under the same reservation....

I really hope this doesn't become necessary. I've never had my Diamond/Glob benefits, such as lounge access or breakfast, denied to occupants of a 2nd (or 3rd or 4th) room. I know this is far beyond what the T&Cs say, but properties where I've stayed (NA and Europe only, no Asian properties) offer it freely. I'd hate to see that change.

Just for fun, it isn't $400, but HP in Las Vegas, only a mile from the strip and across from the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, weekend rates are like $250+ I think haha. And it is only a Cat 2!
