World of Hyatt Credit Card benefit details and notes

Anniversary Free Night Award (Category 1-4)
  • Issued 10 weeks after cardmember anniversary date
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
Additional Free Night Award (Category 1-4) with $15k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases during the current calendar year (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions).
  • The spend counter for this benefit resets at the beginning of every calendar year. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Two Additional Night Credits" spend counter below.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross $15k)
  • Expires 1 year after issuance
  • Ineligible for use with Club Lounge Access Awards and Complimentary Suite Upgrade Awards
  • Cardmembers are eligible for only 1 Additional Free Night Award per calendar year (e.g., spending $30k does not result in two Additional Free Night Awards
Two Additional Night Credits with every $5k spend
  • The spend counter for this benefit tracks total cumulative purchases since account opening (excluding $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions)
  • This spend counter never resets. Chase does not make this spend counter visible to customers, so interested customers must calculate their own. Note that this is a separate spend counter from the "Additional Free Night Award" spend counter above.
  • Issued 1-2 days after statement closing date of the triggering transaction (the transaction causing the spend counter to cross a multiple of $5k)
  • For World of Hyatt status qualification purposes, the night credits are associated with the TRANSACTION date of the triggering transaction, not the posting date and not the statement closing date. For example, triggering transactions on 12/31/2022 (transaction date) will result in 2 night credits for the 2022 status year, regardless of posting date or statement closing date. Based on FT reports, transaction date appears to be based on the US Eastern Time Zone.
  • World of Hyatt Credit Card: timing for $5k spend 2 qualifying nights
Other Benefits
  • 4 Bonus Points per $1 spent on purchases at Hyatt hotels
  • 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on restaurants, airline tickets purchased directly from the airline, local transit and commuting, and fitness club and gym memberships
  • 1 Bonus Point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • Discoverist status every year
  • 5 qualifying night credits every year
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Travel & purchase coverage

Other notes and tips

Chase spending tracker
  • The Chase spending tracker is useful for calculating your spend counter for the $15k Additional Free Night Award and your spend counter for the Two Additional Night Credits
  • Chase mobile app: "View all transactions", then switch to the "Spending Summary" tab
  • Chase website: From the main page, on the right hand side, click the "Spending & Budgeting" menu, then choose "Spending Summary"
  • Remember to add spend from prior calendar year(s) as needed (see spend counter notes above), and to subtract $95 annual fee and any other non-qualifying transactions from all years
  • Full list of non-qualifying transactions: returns, refunds, balance transfers, cash advances, travelers checks, foreign currency, money orders, wire transfers or similar cash-like transactions, lottery tickets, casino gaming chips, race track wagers or similar betting transactions, any checks that access your account, interest, unauthorized or fraudulent charges, and fees of any kind, including an annual fee

They say wait for 30 days when reapplying for the same card because Chase has been known to simply reopen recently closed cards. But, again, this isn't the same card. There's no chance Chase is going to reopen the old Hyatt card for people who apply for the new one.

Not sure if a person can have both Hyatt cards at the same time, but a person with the old Hyatt card isn't eligible for the bonus on the new one, even if it's been more than 24 months. That's in the new one's T&Cs.

Is anyone going to try and test Chase on if they are are going to enforce the no bonus if you've had "the other Hyatt card" in the past 24 months rule? It sounds like they are already strictly enforcing the rule that you can't have the new WoH Hyatt card if you have the plain old Visa Hyatt card open. This type of rule is consistent with Chase in their relatively new rules surrounding not being able to get another Sapphire family card if you already have a Sapphire family card but this new 24 month bonus restriction rule for any Hyatt family cards seems new to Chase (and more like a Citi AA rule). So the question is do we think Chase has the mechanism to enforce it? Anyone gonna risk the hard pull to try? I am around 18 months since I received my last Hyatt bonus so I am probably just gonna wait it out but if sounds like one can definitely open a new card in my scenario (assuming they don't have the older Hyatt Visa) but the risk is whether the bonus will be received after the spend is met.

The T&Cs below are obviously very clear but I wonder if they really will enforce this since these are two separate products:

"The product is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of any Hyatt Credit Card who received a new Cardmember bonus within the last 24 months."

Still hoping we can get clarity from Chase on the following, for current cardholders who choose to upgrade:

1. Will we retain our existing Anniversary Year Date or will it reset to when the upgrade is processed?
2. Will we still receive our renewal Cat 1-4 Free Night certificate as expected, for the current Anniversary Year we are in prior to upgrading?

FYI.. when you convert from the Hyatt Chase to the WOH card, Chase did a hard credit pull. That really annoys me as I merely converted products.
But my 5 night credit has already shown up. Only 29 more nights to go this year. I assume I'll get 6 from a $15k spend.
So then
1. Houston 1 day in a week
2. DC for 2 days Labor day
3. Maldives for 4 days
4. HK maybe or Ritz

Crap.. I still have a lot to go.

Another interesting datapoint -
I paid the AF in April for the old Hyatt card. Upgraded last week.
The AF got partially refunded, so I'm assuming that they'll charge me the new AF and give a new Cat 1-4 cert.

Where did you see your hard pull?

I converted on the first day, and I haven't seen any evidence of one for me.

Maybe it's variable?

If Chase didn't plan to enforce it or didn't have the ability to enforce it, they wouldn't have put it in the T&Cs.

Hyatt Chase is my current main cc, wife and daughter as well. If I upgrade, then I don't have to do anything (autopay), but only maybe 2K points bonus.

If I pay off existing balance, wait a few days then apply for WoH Visa, then I'd get 60K bonus, but all the hassles of getting a new cc. 60K is may be sufficient bonus for the hassles.

"Maybe sufficient"? How many bills do you have an autopay that ~$1,000 might not be worth it?

The risk is definitely worth it in this case. Worst case scenario you re-activate your old card, or just get upgrade bonus. Right back where you started. Worth the credit hit to me for 60k points.

I just cancelled my older Hyatt card today. Now I'll wait a month and then apply for the new WoH Card to get the 60K points after meeting the spend requirements. I meet the requirements because I will have cancelled the older Hyatt card and its been over 24 months since I last received any sign-up bonus. The Chase person on the phone was very sad to see me go but I will make them happy again in August

I was approved for my old Hyatt card April 14, 2016. I never met the 1k spending until July 10, 2016. I cannot remember when I received my 2 free Hyatt nights. However, I know that I receive cat 1-4 certificate every April 11th.

Do I need to wait until July 11, 2018 or figure out the exact date the 2 free hotel nights were deposited in my Hyatt account and then count 24 months? Is it best I cancel the card soon, then wait till July 11, 2018 ( or whatever date Hyatt free nights deposited in my account) to apply for the New Card?

It's easy to find out when you received your two free nights. If you look on your “my account” after logging into Hyatt online, you’ll see a tab called “past history”. You can keep scrolling down (probably have to click “View More Transactions” a few times) until you see the date you USED your free nights. If you click on the “+” you will see where it says when the award was ISSUED.

Sure, now everybody is tightening rules, but we all remember a time when Citi was relatively loose about enforcing some rules.

Okay, I can see them keeping the anniversary date the same, for April, charging you a prorated higher annual fee covering the period of June-April, and then giving you your next Cat 1-4 cert next April.

I guess that means you'll have roughly 10 months (from the time of upgrade on) to meet the 15k then, if you want the second Cat 1-4 cert?
