My bet is that the ad firm only had fixed-width fonts and extensive experience with 1970s era ASCII art.

Really bad work. Not inspiring. Doesn’t tell a story about Hyatt except lack of imagination. Marriott’s is the stylized first letter of the founder’s signature. The old Continental logo featured the continents, which is why it doesn’t make sense for United but it did for CO.

The logo is fine, simple, clean, understandable. Maybe the color is off, perhaps it should be eggshell instead of plain white? Also, why is it so cold outside, I mean really, what the heck, that just makes me mad.

As for the advertising campaigns, I don't know, I would probably go a different direction, but I don't have a "problem" with them.

The logo might be the lesser of the grudges they should have against the person(s) who redesigned their loyalty program; smooth move to designate their top tier membership level by a term that has become a political hot potato.
They certainly have opened themselves up to ridicule: one waggish Flyertalker describes his status as "Hyatt Refugeeist"
