No GP Points for Alcohol

Stayed over the weekend at Hyatt Centric NYC (first time staying there). I noticed that only the room charge was credited with GP points. There was $70 spent at the hotel bar and no points credited, so I wrote to GP customer service. The rep told me s/he had never seen alcohol credited. I've had a drink (or a hundred ) in my many stays at Hyatts around the world and I cannot recall a single instance where points were not credited.

From GP T&Cs:

5. Hyatt Gold Passport members may receive Hyatt Gold Passport points on Eligible Incidental Charges, even when paying Ineligible Rates. Five Hyatt Gold Passport points will be awarded for each whole U.S. dollar or U.S. dollar equivalent, paid by a member for Eligible Incidental Charges that are charged to the member's room. "Eligible Incidental Charges" vary on a hotel-by-hotel basis, but generally include Resort Fee, food, beverage and lounge expenditures (except at outlets not operated by the hotel) and other charges such as laundry, dry cleaning and telephone. Hyatt Gold Passport points will not be awarded on alcoholic beverage purchases in certain jurisdictions/countries.

What am I missing here?

A couple other threads on it:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt...s-alcohol.html

Seems variable and in some instances influenced by state law.
