Hyatt insiders : what is it?

Just enrolled after receiving the invitation but really don't understand the benefits and the purpose. Any ideas?

yosithezet May 8, 2016 2:46 am

Seems like it may be referring to the community described in http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyatt...community.html

frenchft May 8, 2016 4:18 am

Oh, i see. I got it now.
Anyway i had an idea but was interested by "what is behind and what's the propose". Thanks for the link.

frenchft May 13, 2016 9:51 am

Ok... so now i know exactly what it is. Will share my experience soon, just time to write it. Tips : Hyatt Insider is the worst of Hyatt world = Customer service + IT + marketing. Place to avoid at all cost if you are not a Fan boy or want to get good relationship with them in order to maybe get some advantages one day. One word : useless and i would say more, it's at the image of hyatt marketing : totally from another century, managed by incapable people.

Sometimes i wonder how a company with such amazing properties can be run by such people and deliver such a bad IT / CS and marketing. Mystery...

yosithezet May 13, 2016 11:46 am

Ouch! Do tell.

>>> 90% of my post was related to product, experience, ideas... positive stuffs
>>> 10% about average experience in some properties and CS when you got a big issue (in my case 3 cards in fraud).

Nature of the post means : never say bad thing about CS and let on your knees venerating the god hyatt. North Korea style.

I guess they don't want people share the bad... it's a auto congratulation stuff managed by people who believe that this is marketing. Marketing is also dealing with the bad, understand it and make the things change. Useless community, full of "super mega ultra fan boys" (never seen this anywhere, except at school with guys at the first row) and moderated by outsource marketing useless young people.

frenchft May 13, 2016 11:53 am

ah, i forget the site is more or less at the same level of IT that other hyatt IT... i mean was i nice trip back in the 90's.

yosithezet May 14, 2016 5:43 am

Yikes! Was it a forum with threads and the like?

Not really, it's a very bad UI and UX. It's not well organized as a forum and it's complicated to navigate.

Anyway in my opinion the idea is not bad but it's not well managed, the tool is just horrible and at the end the main idea behind is : give us your ideas for free.

I have never work for free and will not do so for hyatt lazy marketing teams neither ;)

Anyway interest is close from zero for user (only one winner : hyatt, but they could get much more if it were managed the right way) and you have to say only how good hyatt is (it's the rule there, and people staying there are this kind of super fan boys). North Korean / sect style managed by obscure marketing agency...

Not a surprise from hyatt... great properties, worst management ever.

hailstorm May 18, 2016 5:07 am

I got an invite today. Filled out the questionnaire, read the ridiculously long T&C, and declined to accept them.

goliath May 18, 2016 12:30 pm

I got the "Exclusive Invitation to Share your Opinions" today as well and have taken the questionnaire. I'm curious to see what it is all about.

If you want to spend time with a crappy website with max 5 or 6 active people (all super mega fan boys, Hyatt is god for them) + the worst marketing team ever, it's the place. They are more marketing people than active users.

Main goal? Deliver them idea for free because it sounds that the marketing team is not that creative or efficient. But be aware : never talk about what is good at hotel chains or say bad words about hyatt...

My opinion : useless, bad idea, badly managed and i never work for free (if they want valuable ideas, they have to pay people for that).

Only plus : it's a free trip in the 90s with they cheesing and worst UI / UX website:td:

Yes, I did read your previous post - I still like to have a look for myself. ;)

Agree, my tips : go there and try to get the points from their surveys (it's the only real positive thing there)... but forget to comment or discuss the brand, be a good man, take the survey and take the points (don't forget to remind them to post, because don't forget it's hyatt :)

mauld May 19, 2016 2:59 pm

I've been a member for just under a year now, and get notices of conference calls regarding new properties/issues etc. I've also participated in ($ PAID $) consumer studies and just this week I've received an invite to a cocktail reception at the NY Park Hyatt. Yes, there is a lot of 'we love Hyatt' ... rah, rah on the Insiders website, but overall it's not been a bad experience.

ZBigFam May 20, 2016 6:26 pm

Well i just got denied....wow...it's one of those things that I wouldn't have cared about if I hadn't even been asked. Now after being denied I feel like they don't appreciate my business.

antonius66 May 20, 2016 8:15 pm

Got the same email today denying me.

goliath May 21, 2016 12:54 am

Same here - it wasn't meant to be:

Hi GOLIATH,
Thank you for your interest in the Hyatt Insiders. We sincerely appreciate that you took the time to fill out our survey. Unfortunately, we have reached our capacity and cannot extend an invitation at this time.
We always appreciate your thoughts and opinions, and please feel free to reply directly to this email if you have any suggestions regarding how we might improve your overall Hyatt experience.

Safe travels,

It's the way hyatt does business... i think the head of marketing lives on another planet. They invite people to this useless stuff and introduce it like a "gift" and finally they deny people. Crazy, it's like inviting your best clients to a party and when at the door you deny entrance for a crapy reason... you know another business doing this? Me no... only cheesy and crapy team can get this kind of silly idea.

Sometimes i really wonder how the guy in charge of Marketing is still in the house, so many crazy bad ideas, nothing creative, nothing clever... etc etc.

I understand you, it's insulting but not a surprise regarding the global level of their marketing team.

m0hamed May 21, 2016 8:06 am

To be fair: They need a range of people from those who barely stay at Hyatt to those who do hundreds of nights.

My partner who only really travels for leisure with me if part of the QF Advisory Committee which is compensated with points in return for his input on questions and issues discussed on a microsite. He knows it irks me that he got invited and accepted and I didn't so always announces dramatically when he is participating!

Mary2e May 21, 2016 8:17 am

I filled the form out a few days ago and haven't heard back.

Probably replaced by https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hyat...ve-points.html

mauld Feb 16, 2018 3:19 pm

Got the same one as well, with a Thank You of a choice between 10,000 points or 1 Free Night at a Category 1-4 Property.

mauld Mar 2, 2018 3:11 pm

Has anyone received their 'gift' from Hyatt Insiders yet? I called Hyatt yesterday regarding my 'Free Night" and explained about HI. The Hyatt rep had no idea what I was talking about, and had never heard of Hyatt Insiders or the Thank You Gift. With Insiders closed, not sure where to check??

I read somewhere on the Insiders sight that it would take 4-6 weeks to post to your account. When I first joined the Insiders several years ago I thought it was a great thing. I liked the idea of being part of a smallish group to provide Hyatt with our opinions and insights. Not sure how they filtered new candidates but over the past year, Hyatt stopped participating in it frequently and there were too many newbies coming in and simply complaining constantly, similar to FT. It wasn't meant to be a FT type of post but a place where Hyatt could ask forward thinking ideas and questions and get feedback from their Insiders group. I think years ago it was an asset to Hyatt but more recently it was the whiners club so they shut it down. I liked being a part of it and am disappointed that its now gone but I thought Hyatt was very generous to provide 10K points or a free night cert as a parting gift, that was classy. My parting comments were that if I want people complaining and nit picking all the time I can go to FT for that and for Hyatt to get real value from true insiders they need to be more selective and set clear objectives and guidelines for what they want from the group and a code of conduct.

The terms and conditions said this would be deposited on March 15th, give it a few more weeks.

I also confirmed this with a follow up email to the hyatt insiders moderators.

Thanks, that's all I needed. I have a tendency to immediately DELETE messages after reading

I was part of the Insider Group as well and agree with your comments! My only addition and maybe some food for thought is.....don't you think that the complaining and nit picking was kind of self imposed by Hyatt due the WOH switch? I think most of the Insiders felt a little annoyed that if the Insider Forum was to be Hyatt's sounding board WHY were they not asked about the changes Hyatt was considering to the program before they went completely off the deep end with WOH. I felt WOH was what caused the Insider members to turn and sadly we saw that here on FT as well. Before WOH the FT Hyatt forum generally was a big Hyatt cheerleading squad but once people feel that "loyalty" became a one way street they turned sour real quick.

hailstorm Mar 9, 2018 10:15 pm

For various reasons, I have stopped focusing on Hyatt's loyalty program in favor of Japan's Prince Hotels loyalty program.

One of the things they do is send out quarterly surveys to their elite members, asking them to evaluate the various facets of the program, and what they would like to see in the future. The program has evolved in direct response to the surveys, and they even give out a small credit towards re-qualification to the participants. It really serves as an example of a rewards program as a partnership between company and customer, as opposed to a system where everything is an edict from above.

Yes I agree with you on this. I guess what I was saying was I didn't expect the level of complaining within an Insiders group. Now looking back I do remember a lot of the 25-stay per year Diamond members that had been with the Insiders for years were really thrown for a loop with the WoH changes and I agree that the forum and Hyatt team could have handled it better with more frequent communication. The Hyatt team kind of crawled into a hole but then that's also when Jeff Zidell left as well so I think they were lacking leadership.

I'm all for giving feedback and telling Hyatt when things are wrong but in a way that is professional and respectful. At least that is how I viewed being a member of Insiders.

mauld Mar 11, 2018 12:14 pm

Yesterday I received what appeared to be a handwritten note from Amy Weinberg WOH, thanking me for my participation. It ended with "We wish you all the best, and we will be in touch with future engagement opportunities". So perhaps Hyatt is just revamping Insiders ?? The envelope was definitely hand written, even the return address was done in ink!

TravelinWilly Mar 12, 2018 1:55 pm

I was a member of the Insiders group as well, and enjoyed my time there before it closed down. I enjoyed some of the conference call sessions, and felt that they were actively listening to the questions and suggestions on the couple that I attended.

As PortlySpartacus notes above (I'm putting my own words to his comment), for the past year there was virtually zero activity or meaningful participation from the Hyatt team that supported the group, so when I got the email about the site closing I was certainly not surprised.

For the Insiders who were Diamond from stays, they were really upset with the change WoH took when it was announced that stays would no longer count. I've rarely made status by stays; that said, I really think WoH needs to bring back the stay criteria as a way of earning status, as the bad will the change generated was so upsetting to those who were very loyal to the brand. I know I would be quite peeved if I made status this way and it was then announced that it no longer counted.

Some of the long-time contributors added a lot of value, and they were not Hyatt cheerleaders - Elaine xxxxxxxx (<-- She used what I believe was a real surname, so for the sake of privacy I'm not including it here) stayed(stays?) at Hyatt properties more than anyone I know, and she wasn't all love and hugs and kisses. She offered criticism all the time, but did so calmly and very professionally, and I enjoyed reading her comments. Some of the members who only had complaints got a bit tiresome (to me). If I were Hyatt (or anyone, really) running a board of loyal customers, I would want to know where I could improve, but I would want feedback on what I'm doing right as well. Some members didn't seem to have that balance, or lost that balance at some point (and WoH really ticked off many.

I also received the handwritten card from Amy Weinberg last week as well, and I thought it was a very nice touch, as she (or someone) likely has to write hundreds of these...

Got the same note, while it appeared to be handwritten, now I wonder.

sandra2 Mar 14, 2018 3:02 pm

I was a member of the Insiders as well. I agree, that there was not much presence from Hyatt in the last two years. The communication desaster with WoH is unforgotten, the „important“ insiders received the info about WoH after some random bloggers. I disagree about the point, that there was too much critic on the boatd, you can only get better, if you get feedback about our weaknesses. Of course good things should and were discussed as well.

i received the card as well, it is printed with inc, but if you look closely, you can see, that the letters are 100% equal. My guess is, that they digitized Amy handwriting and then printed it.

The award has to posted yet.

lululee Mar 14, 2018 8:05 pm

FYI only - I chose 10,000 points as the parting gift, and the points were credited to my account yesterday.

ryandc99 Mar 14, 2018 9:34 pm

My points posted today.

christianj Mar 15, 2018 6:34 am

My points posted as well. I do find it interesting that virtually everyone took the 10k points instead of the Cat. 1-4 free night which could be worth 15k. I was worried about not finding a Cat. 4 I wanted to stay at before it expired. (As an aside, this year I cancelled my Chase Hyatt card because I was having issues with the free night redemption offered for the card as well.)
