Tips for checking for availability

I have UR points and would transfer them to Hyatt of the dates i want for a booking si avialable. Short of calling it in, is there any other way i can check without having to have to transfer the points into my account?

Is Regency club with the extra 2-3000 points?

If a friend books the standard rate, can I use my points to upgrade him to a suite for his stay? or do the points have to come out of his acccount?

Are the upgrades limited and booked ahead of time or dependent on availability at check in?

Does anyone know if we book and pay instead of redeeming points, if Hyatt U.S will charge us or will the international hyatt charge our credit card? Can we request that the US Hyatt charge us so that we do not have to pay FX fees?

Not sure what property you are looking at but

1) for award redemption - as long as the base entry room (not deluxe, executive, view, club, etc) is available for revenue booking it is available for award redemption

2) Regency club - only you can determine whether having access is worth the extra points (which translate into $40-60 cost) - you get breakfast service (continental) and evening service (appetizers - and alcoholic drinks if you are at a non-US property).

3) You can give awards to a friend - so I presume that you can gift the upgrade points also.

4) Not sure what you are getting at here - if you can get it confirmed in advance you'll get the upgrade (barring some glitch which can happen) - if you can't get it confirmed you can ask at check-in or closer in - perhaps you'll luck out then.

5) The charge is by the property - you cannot request that Hyatt Corporate (US) charge you. Many properties now have DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion) which converts the charge to USD from the local currency albeit the "cost" of doing so is probably higher than your credit card international fee (note the Chase Hyatt card waives these fees).

If the OP is asking about booking a room with points and then deciding at check in or check out to pay with money, this would be a problem within the cancellation period for the points reservation and would depend on the rates available at the time the change is attempted. YMMV.
