Random Diamond Comp

I don't think I've stayed at a Hyatt in 5 years, but today's mail brought a Sept 1 - Nov 30 comp to Diamond on account of my DL Plat status. 4 stays in that period extends my status through Feb 2005. I used to spend a lot of time at the Tampa Westshore but that was at the restaurants, not in the rooms.

I've been a *wood partisan for a while because of the Amex card and the always-available rooms but on checking out the Diamond perks, I'll certain try to figure out how to get my four stays in through Thanksgiving. Loyal Hyettas, don't hate me for stealing your upgrades, though, because there's about a 1% chance I'll have enough stays or nights to re-up after 2005.

There is no shortage of DL Plats out there, although I did rack up about 200k miles last year (there were lots of bonuses involved). Any other newcomers to this board get the same thing in the mail?

Same deal as you except it was due to my US Chairman's Preferred status.

As a longtime Diamond, I urge you to try Hyatt- you will be very pleased.

I too received this offer in the mail yesterday for being a Southwest Airlines Rapid Reward Companion Pass Holder (which requires 100 segments on Southwest in a year, basically their "Platinum" frequent flyer level).

How do you get/upgrade your status to Diamond with Hyatt with each of the complimentary deals coming in from Southwest, Continental, Northwest, USAir, and Delta?

So you just call them and tell them airline X offered you the upgrade and they do it over the phone? Or is there a promotional code tied to each airline mailing?

I got this ofer two years ago, and said the same thing. However, Hyatt made a big fan out of me, and I'm close to re-qualifying for Diamond, again, next year. I've already scotched my Hilton Diamond for '04, which I keep due to significant point accruals and more property locations. If Hyatt had a similar hotel network, I'd probably put it all with Hyatt.

Try the Diamond experience, and you may become a convert as well.

There is no promo code, just a flimsy diamond card with my name and Hyatt number on it and a "welcome to gold passport diamond membership" brochure.

JULIA - Are you listening? There seem to be a lot of programs to comp Diamond status. How much does HGP expect this will "dilute" the Diamond pool? 1%? 20%?

Thanks!

The same promo happened last year. How much do you think the program was diluted by all the comps from last years 'quick qualify' comp. Hopefully Hyatt has a way of tracking who had the offer and does not offer the same people a quick qualify year after year.

The truth is that anyone who has top tier in another hotel program can get a 1 year comp to Diamond by faxing in a statement. I'm pretty sure the 3 other major programs do the same thing. Someone last year posted that they were comped to Diamond because they were a Hilton Gold (mid tier).
