Weatherboy: Maybe it's just because I have never been to Aruba and didn't know what to expect, but I was actually fairly disappointed with the beach. The sand was nice, but other than that the water was very disappointing. First, everyday their was a fair amount of seaweed, it may not have been washed up, but it was covering the bottom of the ocean (Not typical caribbean sandy bottom). Also, the water was not clear at all, it wasn't dirty, but you couldn't see your hands or feet underneath the water, let alone look at the bottom. I did go out on a snorkel trip, and when we were about a mile out, the water became clearer, but still not what I have seen at other islands.

I am considering Aruba for a family vacation during Easter break 2010. It would be me and Mrs. CS, plus our two kids (12 and 9). How is the Hyatt Aruba for familes? I don't envision leaving the property very often at all, so the quality of the hotel and kid-friendliness are the most important parts of this decision-making process. The kids love the beach, but other activities would be great.

Many thanks for any input.

I have a 15% Off At Hyatt Aruba Restaurants.

Offer valid at restaurants located in Hyatt Regency Aruba. $20 min purchase exlusive of tax, gratuities and service fees applies.

Let me know if anyone can use it, no expiration date. Could use UA/AA drink Chits in return.

No club lounge ?

I am considering this Hyatt as a honeymoon destination and asked the hotel several questions, e.g. if they would accept a Diamond suite upgrade voucher for FFN's and they had me to go to gold passport. Phuaaaa... Further I asked if they have a club lounge. And again a NO from the hotel... Is that information correct? The website says that they have club rooms. So, how can they have club rooms but not a club lounge? Would I get at least free breakfast at that Hyatt?

yes there is lounge, but nothing stand out. personally I would not pay for it but a lot of people do.
no suite upgrade on FFN, but you can ask but don't expect a yes.
The entry level suite at there are the family suites right next to the elevator. If you are there for honeymoon, better ask and stay at the ocean front room. They are larger than the regular room and has a full balcony with full frontal sea view.

The best suite is the Governor suite on the ninth floor, room 941. It even comes with its own front row cabana on the beach so no need to get to the towel hut at 6am^

IMO, I would not go to Aruba for honeynoon. Too many kids, not romantic at all.

I've been there several times with my family. My kids love the pool slides. We usually get a sitter and go out for some fine dining a few nights. PM me if you want a great sitter we have used over the past ten years.

Hyatt Aruba / Diamond

Planning a trip there the end of March 2010, what should I expect to receive as a Diamond member?

My guess is that you should nothing expect from that hotel.

For honeymooners: One photo and one bottle of champagne if you eat in the (overpriced?) restaurant....

As some posters already said, lounge access and free internet for Diamonds - maybe an upgrade. Was there something else you were expecting? I will report back as I will also be there in March using FFN.

Question How to go to the hotel ?

How can one go to the hotel from the airport by public transportation? Do the publics accept baggage? (I remember a situation on Puerto Rico and Honolulu where they would not let us take the public bus because we had suitcases with us).

How much is the cost of a taxi from the airport to the hotel?

The taxi isn't too expensive (25 each way?) but you can get a voucher for a DePalm Tours shuttle bus that goes from the airport to the various hotels. You can buy it on expedia for about $21 r/t per person. It can be purchased separately by going to the expedia activity section. My guess is that if your group is 3 or more it is actually cheaper to all go in the same taxi.

There is a bus...if I remember correctly it only goes to the road in front of the airport and doesn't pull up to the airport itself (5-8 minute walk to the bus with luggage from the airport main exit in the Aruban heat and sun)... and involves a change of buses in downtown. Totally not worth the hassle even if they do allow baggage on the bus.
