Problem with Hyatt certificates

For the second time when I used the Hyatt certificates, the hotel did not give me Gold Passport points for the certificates.
It is a lot of aggravation to have to fight with Hyatt to get the points.
Be aware.

Personally I find it hard to believe you've had to "fight" to get these points ... maybe you'd like to provide some details on the "fight" you've had to put up. In all the times I've not had points credited all I've had to do was send them an e-mail from their website ( http://www.goldpassport.com ) and the points are credited within a few days.

When I called Hyatt, first they told me the certificates don't receive GP points. When a supervisor finally admits they do, they ask me to fax a copy of the hotel bill to them.
Their fax machine is always busy, so I have to keep trying to fax.
Then I call them to tell them the fax is busy and someone else tells me to fax it directly to them.
Only then do I finally get the points. I consider this an inapproprite fight.

At Hyatt Gold Passport, we are committed to providing our members with the very best service. We were disappointed to hear you were misinformed regarding Hyatt Gift Certificates. When paying for a stay with Hyatt Check Certificates you are eligible to earn Gold Passport points.

If you would provide your name and the details of your stay, we will be more than happy to follow up with the hotels, to make sure that this does not happen in the future. You may e-mail this information to: [email protected].

Thank you and kindest regards,

Julia Moore

While I've not had any difficulty in having my points posted to my account, what I have found to be somewhat an inconvenience and a source of frustration is in redeeming the certificates. On every occasion, in Austin, Chicago, West Hollywood, San Jose and Paris, each time I presented the certificates at check out, only to find that no one at the front desk had ever dealt with them before.

What becomes somewhat embarrassing it the time it takes the front desk clerk to figure out how to process them, post them to my folio and get me out the door - all this with others trying to check in and check out. In Austin, on a recent trip, there was only one clerk, who had no idea how to process them. Since I had experienced this before, I woke up earlier than normal to check out, just to ensure that I would not inconvenience those in line behind me. While I was the only customer when I approached the front desk, a dozen other people appeared after I did, all wanting to check out. After 15-20 minutes, the clerk finally found the manual and was able to process the certificates, but not before angering most of the people in line, who of course, we all late for a flight.

Similar experiences followed in Chicago, San Jose and West Hollywood. While the bonus points are terrific, Hyatt needs to do a better job at training their employees in processing these certificates as to not inconvenience both the person redeeming the certificates, but also in not angering those waiting in line.

I'm actually having an interesting problem with Hyatt Gift Certificates, something that is kind of unexpected.

In late April I stayed at the Milwaukee Hyatt Regency and paid for $100 of my stay with Hyatt GCs. When I checked out, my outstanding balance on the folio was $100, to be eventually transferred to some special folio. I asked for a folio that showed a zero balance (I needed it to submit for reimbursement from my employer). The front desk clerk didn't have any way to do it.

I called a few days later and talked to the accounting department; they manually typed an invoice for me to submit. Of course, our travel people won't accept it so I'm going to have to eat the charges for that night.

Also, to add insult to injury, I never got Gold Passport credit for the stay. I faxed in my folio to the Gold Passport customer center on May 15 but still nothing showed up so I called them this morning; they apparently lost the fax so they're going to contact the Milwaukee Hyatt directly to get confirmation of my stay.

TravelLover, I don't know anything about your company, but I don't understand why you have to put up with the "travel people" not accepting the manually typed invoice from the hotel's accounting department.

Certainly, a typed invoice would be expected to attract extra scrutiny, but that should only concern authenticity, which can easily be confirmed with a fax and a phone call.

There's something very wrong if you have no way to get a perfectly legitimate hotel bill accepted.
