expiring points

Does anyone know if they enforce the expiration date of points? Is there any way to get them to extend it?

I believe they have the option of expiring points in the rules, but have not done say anytime recently (I believe someone from Hyatt even said as much in a posting here in Flyertalk a while back).

Maybe I am missing something, but I never saw anything to do with points expiring. What is the deal?

It's not necessarily points expiring, it's that they will close your account ... From Hyatt Gold Passport Terms and Conditions:

9. Your Gold Passport account may be closed at Hyatt's discretion if you do not record Gold Passport stay activity during a 12-month period. All points in the account will be forfeited at that time.

However, as I said, they don't exercise this option (according to someone from Hyatt who had posted here last year).

I've been a GP for 10 years, and have had time when I didn't stay at Hyatt within a year period. Never as much as a letter to remind me of the rules.

Think you're right, Beckles, they don't enforce it.

I should hope that they don't enforce the 12 month rule. It could get real messy if, for example, they cancelled accounts for current 1999 qualified Platinum/Diamond members (who will remain at their status until Feb 2001, or 18 months) a year from now without activity. I'd probably show up at Pritzker's house if that happened....

No longer used by Hyatt; use World of Hyatt Concierge

According to the Gold Passport terms and conditions; Gold Passport members are required to stay at a Hyatt Hotel once a year to keep their membership active. However, over the past few years we have chosen not to implement this policy. Currently, there are no plans to enforce this policy in the near future.

Kindest regards,

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Hilton and Starwood also have similar terms & conditions.

I remember getting a postcard from Sheraton a couple years back stating that my points were expiring. Usually, a phone call or a fee will get the points reinstated.
