Using awards at Hyatts

I have been calling the last few weeks to use an award at the Hyatt in Maui and there was never availability. Tonight I called and they suddenly had availability for the next few nights- This is the first time I tried to use a Hyatt award- is this standard procedure. Also does anyone know if the award rooms are the lowest level- Terrace rooms. I am only Hyatt Gold.

If you book an award on line, you will see a couple of options depending upon availability. In general, however, awards are standard rooms with bed option. Whatever GP benefits relating to upgrades will be applied, based upon availability at the time of check in and the length of your award stay. Either someone cancelled their award booking, and thus released a room for you to take, or inventory control decided the likelihood of selling the room(s) was limited and thus award inventory was replenished. Enjoy your stay. I have fond memories of this property when it first opened back in the 80s.
