FFN Consecutive Nights? Cancellable?

Hi, fellow flyertalk members,

I know these questions have been addressed before, but I just can't seem to find the appropriate threads on the matter; even looked at the two big threads, "FFN FAQ" and "Where will you use your FFN".

I am planning to book a 3 night stay at the PH Tokyo for Feb 18 - Feb 21, but when trying to book using both points or FFN, it is said that the hotel is not participating. When booking the nights individually, they are available; in fact both room categories are available, Park King and Park Twin. I have enough free nights but not enough points. I can most likely book the nights individually or deal with it at check-in. Or would you suggest I book by phone?

I am Platinum Status.

Second question: If I book by points(and later switch to FFN) or use FFN to book the awards, would I be able to cancel these bookings? It is a bit far off to tell if I would complete the trip with certainty, but booking earlier is kind on availability.

Yes, free nights can be canceled. Check the reservation details. Some require 3 days in advance, some just a day in advance.

Yes, you can only book one night at a time when you book online. Or you can call reservations and book consecutive nights. Yes, you can book a night with points that you should be able to convert to NBT/FFN when you've earned it.

Don't expect to be able to book a FFN/NBT night at the front desk. Take care of it before you arrive at the property.

Be aware that availability of FFNs changes quickly and often. I tried to book a 4-night FFN stay at Gainey Ranch and got the 'unavailable' message, but was able at that time to get the first two nights. A couple weeks later the 4th night I wanted became available, and last week the missing 3rd night showed up and lasted only a day. Don't know how they'll react to my having multiple reservations for the same stay, but I figure the worst that can happen is that they'll ask us to move from one room to another at some point. Maybe, though, I'll get lucky and once they realize it's a four-nighter I'll get a nice upgrade at checkin.

I would call Hyatt and ask them to link the reservations together so they can block you a room for all 4 nights in advance.
