If I remember correctly the 2-for-1 was at both the Grand Sierra as well as the Summit. For those unfamiliar, the Grand Sierra is floors 1-16 with the Summit floors 17-27. The Summit is a vacation ownership deal (not a timeshare), however rooms are also sold on a nightly basis. The rooms at the Summit were renovated a couple of years ago to include refrigerator, microwave and a few other things in line with a vacation ownership type of accomodation.

But in the meantime, you can find good rates for this property (the Summit) at www.bookit.com. For example, look at Jan 25 for one night. You will see the Summit selling a Grand Suite for $110. However scroll further down the list of hotels and look at the "4 Star Mystery Casino Hotel". Click on the hotel information tab and it will reveal several items that identifies this as the Summit such as:

1995 rooms
27 floors
Luxurious bathroom with deluxe shower head and 12 inch flat screen television (TV in the bathroom)

Also, when you look at the photos, there is one that shows brown-colored shampoo/conditioner/lotion bottles on a wooden tray. This is yet another indication the "mystery hotel" is the Summit (I have some of these bottles at home!).

On Jan 25, for example, the "mystery room" is selling for $43.75 compared to $110 on the retail side. Tough to beat...

Good luck!

The Summit rocks. I was shocked how nice the rooms were. I'd stayed there when it was the Hilton and it was just OK. We got the rooms so cheap on Priceline this Summer maybe like $45 all in. There's a 'resort fee' of 5 or $10 too. wj

The Reno Hilton also used to have some of the best comp-drink deals in town, including a sizable Long Island Tea.

I've always liked Reno a lot and see a bit of the old Las Vegas in it,or at least a place with a better natural setting, much better sidetrips and not as horrible a traffic problem. But if Vegas has gotten bad for scoring airfare deals from the east side of the country, Reno has gotten much worse. You can probably stay for near-free these day if applying one of the deals in the Hotel Deals section, then live off sub-$10 steak-dinner deals even if not playing in the casinos at all.

If you are looking for the "old Las Vegas", you should definitely check out Laughlin. There are only charter flights into the airport, which is 5 minutes from the casinos, but the drive from LAS is only about 90 minutes. The rates are usually great, they have good shows, very relaxed atmosphere, and the physical setting along the river is really attractive. There are also a number of interesting side trips - Oatman, Lake Havasu, e.g.

We're using the Enterprise office in the Grand Sierra Resort to save paying the airport rental car tax and I am also looking for a promotion for the night we will spend there. Thanks!

I just received an email from the Grand Sierra offering the following:

Valid April 1-9 and 11-14

Rooms start at $39 (Grand Sierra) and you can stay up to the next two nights free as long as your total stay falls within the above dates. Click on "luxury rooms/suites" if you want to stay at The Summit (17th floor and above) where the Grand II suite starts at $60.

Package includes the following:

$20 Dining credit
$10 Bowling credit
$10 Health club credit
$10 Fun Quest credit

Enter code BREAK to get these rates.

www.grandsierraresort.com

It's a small window of available dates, however a great deal, especially if you're able to stay 3 nights to get the maximum benefit.

For $60 for 3 nights, my advice would be to stay in The Summit suites!

Thanks for the 3-for-1 deal. Stayed this past weekend, combining with a ski trip to Tahoe.

Total for all three nights in a Summit 'suite' was ~$90 all in for 3 nights.

A couple notes on the place - Only handicapped accessible rooms have bath tubs - not sure what type. Our room had a shower only.

The dinner buffet is absolutely horrible. Definitely not worth the $20 they ask for it. Go to Sizzler instead if you want bad buffet food. Couldn't believe the hour wait.

Casino is nice, albeit smallish. I liked the atmosphere much better than some of the other casinos in town. Easy to get drinks.

All in all, a great deal, especially after using $20 in comps from gambling to cover part of the room.
