5 New BRG Opportunities (Free Rooms): Toronto, Cincinnati, San Francisco, & Seattle

Here's a bunch more BRG opportunities posted yesterday and today on The Best Rate Guarantee Blog. Some untested, some verified. I hope someone can use at least one of these. There are 3 Toronto opportunities, 1 San Francisco, and 1 Seattle-Tacoma.

EDIT 6/24: The Toronto opportunities appear to be bum deals. Please disregard them and as always, YMMV.

Days Hotel and Conference Center Toronto Downtown - Toronto, Ontario

This is a bed and breakfast rate that's cheaper than the WR non-breakfast rate. Should be good for those needing a short getaway with the family. Could also make a good basecamp for heading to Niagara Falls, a short 90 minutes away.

Hotel Address: 30 Carlton Street, Toronto, ON M5B 2E9 CA

Competitor Website: http://www.reservetravel.com

Sample Date: August 20, 2008

Occupancy: 2 Persons

Room Details: One Queen (S/NS), Two Doubles (S/NS)

Rate variation: $121.00 CAD Reservetravel, $125.10 CAD WR

Special Comments: As always, YMMV. In theory, this will work.

Days Hotel and Conference Center Toronto Airport East - Toronto, Ontario

Here's another example of how Reservetravel comes to the rescue, offering obscure rates that the WR website doesn't. This one's available under an "Airport Stopover Rate", but it appears that anyone can book this. As always, YMMV, but in theory, this one will work.

Hotel Address: 1677 Wilson Avenue, Toronto, ON M3L 1A5 CA

Competitor Website: http://www.reservetravel.com

Sample Date: July 16, 2008 (most dates I checked worked)

Occupancy: 2 Persons

Room Details: King, Two Doubles, Two Queens

Rate variation: Two Queens: $99.00 CAD Reservetravel, $119.00 WR

Special Comments: Located 4.5 miles from the airport, 9 miles from downtown Toronto. Complimentary airport shuttle. Let us know if this one works for you.

Super 8 Downtown - Toronto, Ontario

Hurry, as this may disappear at any time (Travelocity is probably the least stable site for rates out of them all).

Hotel Address: 222 Spadina Ave, Toronto, ON M5T 2C2 Canada

Competitor Website: http://www.travelocity.ca

Sample Date: July 9, 2008

Occupancy: 2 Persons

Room Details: 2 Queens Standard, 1 Queen Standard, 1 Queen & Sofabed.
None of the King options are likely to work.

Rate variation: 10% off on Travelocity.ca.
(1 Queen & Sofabed): $135.10 Travelocity.ca, $149.00 WR

Special Comments: "The Super 8 Hotel in Toronto, ON is a newly constructed/renovated facility located in the heart of Chinatown. Located within walking distance from entertainment, shopping, restaurants and much more" - Super8.com

Days Inn Cincinnati East - Cincinnati, Ohio

Reader James submitted this one this morning to add to our listings. Looks like an easy approval. This one's been posted before on the blog (IIRC). Good luck.

Hotel Address: 4056 Mt. Carmel Tobasco Road, Cincinnati, OH 45255

Competitor Website: Expedia.com

Sample Date: July 10, 2008

Occupancy: 2 Persons

Room Details: One Double (S/NS), Two Doubles, King (S/NS)

Rate variation: All rooms are 10% off on Expedia. $49.50 Expedia, $54.99 WR

Special Comments: Conveniently located off of I-275 Exit 65 close to all major attractions and events in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. Close to River Downs Racing Track, River Bend Music Center, Newport on the Levee Entertainment Complex, Downtown Cincinnati, Paul Brown Football Stadium, The Great American Ball Park, Procter and Gamble, entertainment, sports, recreational, retail, malls and restaurants. Minutes from Paramount Kings Island Amusement Park.

Days Inn Lombard, San Francisco, California

Posted by David (Free Room Guy):

"This I found on venere.com for King Bed room types only. The property is located on about page 3 of the hotel listings on venere. Seems lower on Friday and Saturday nights for any month, but check your dates as well. This one you need to grab as I don't think it will last! There is a big demand for SF right now.

Hotel Address: 2358 Lombard Street, San Francisco, CA 94123

Competitor Website: http://www.venere.com/

Sample Date: 7/5, 7/11, 7/19, 10/4, most Fridays & Saturdays

Occupancy: 2 Persons

Room Details: 1 King Bed Standard Room

Rate variation: $135 venere $149.99 WR (July) Rates vary other months, but are lower on weekends with venere.

Special Comments: Free breakfast and free indoor parking. Keep in mind, this hotel only has 22 rooms, so it may book up fast or availability may be limited.

Hope it works out!
David"

Travelodge Inn and Suites - Auburn, Washington (Seattle-Tacoma area)

This looks like a comfortable enough property, even if reviews are mixed (and possibly embellished) on Tripadvisor. Located roughly midway between Seattle and Tacoma in the suburb of Auburn.

Hotel Address: Nine 16th St North West, Auburn, WA 98001 US

Competitor Website: Expedia.com or hotels.com

Sample Date: July 9, 2008 (and possibly many more).

Occupancy: 2 Persons

Room Details: One Queen (S/NS)

Rate variation: $60.00 Hotels.com/Expedia, $80.00 WR

Special Comments: "The warm friendly award winning Auburn Travelodge Inn and Suites is conveniently located and accessible from freeways 167 and 18. The hotel is close to Muckleshoot Casino, Emerald Downs Racetrack, Six Flags Wild Waves, The SuperMall of the Northwest, Washington National Golf Course, Pacific Raceways and White River Amphitheatre. Within walking distance of the hotel is variety of restaurants and the Iron Horse Casino. The Auburn Travelodge Inn and Suites prides itself on being a clean, comfortable and cozy hotel with the friendliest service in town." - Travelodge.com

This hotel is a bit of a dive and it isn't exactly 'downtown.'
I had friends who have 'stayed' there before but after walking in and checking in they promptly walked out and found a room somewhere else. YMMV.

Denied

For what it's worth I was denied BRG at the Toronto properties. Perhaps my BRG request wasn't well written?

It's not that the request wasn't "well written." The agent who denied my claim stated that it was not a publicly available rate, but instead a bed & breakfast rate. My question remains, how does a hotel which offers a free hot breakfast also offer a separate bed & breakfast rate? It'd have been nice if this claim was approved, as the Super 8 deal is no longer available (at least for the date I needed).

Again, with these opportunities, they're YMMV.

I sure can't submit claims for hotels I won't be using just to check if they're valid, but that's what these threads are for, to report your experiences. It seems WR is beginning to deny certain rates on Reservetravel (this is new!) - a "bed and breakfast" rate would have been fine last week. Next thing they're going to stop approving "Manager's Specials".

It wouldn't hurt to contact a supervisor and talk some logic. They're usually a lot more easygoing (surprisingly) than the staff members. If one room is basic crap and its a bunch more money, and the other offers bed and breakfast and is cheaper, then logic states that the competitor site probably has a better deal, and the supervisors usually recognize this.

Just a datapoint - had an opportunity today to check rates for Nov. and Dec. - did not find any rate differences. Perhaps it still works for some dates this summer - I didn't check that.

I got a free night on Friday Aug 22nd. Thanks OP. ^^^ We are visiting friends in Berkley and will stay downtown without them that night. Unless I can convince them to do the same thing and get a free room that night as well.
