Thanks for the headsup.

I used to get an email (I'm on their mailing list) with the date they would sell rooms for 1GBP, but didn't receive one this time.

Did you get a special link or something?

Last time, their site was very, very slow.. (overload..)

Does this mean rooms on Jan 24 are a pound, or any date will be a pound on Jan 24th?

Neither.

It means that for a limited time on January 24, you will be able to attempt to book rooms online for one pound/night for specified dates in the future.

You will be limited to ONE room reservation for just ONE night at that rate, if they do the same as in the past (violate the rules and all your res will be cancelled). Limited availability, first come first serve, prepaid nonrefundable, etc., etc.

They may offer some other rooms at a higher, but still bargain, rate at the same time.

Anyhow, it's been discussed before. Search this forum using the term "Hoxton" to find out more details about how they ran these things in the past. Maybe it'll be a bit different this time, but no doubt still limited by quotas.

Any idea at what time this sales is gonna be?
Don't really want to check all day.

Also, is it realistic to get a room at the advertised GBP 1?

It's 12 Noon, I've edited the title.

Patience and persistence may get you a £1.00 room.

I got one last time (third time I'd tried).

The question is already answered in the very first post of this thread:

As already suggested earlier in this thread, do a search on this forum using the term "Hoxton" for details on past 1 GBP/night sales. (The short answer is, yes, some FTers have succeeded and gotten the deal; others have experienced website failure during the attempt. )

I have a trip to London coming up in February and I just might try for this! (Already have a hotel booked on points, but can cancel that if needed.)

To be fair to jackthebox I've edited the first post to add this time. It wasn't there as it hadn't been disclosed when I started the thread.

Got the official email

Good morning,

With rising energy prices, the alleged credit crunch and lots of rain, we thought we would try and brighten up your day by letting you know that our next £1 sale will take place on the 24th January at 12 Noon.

We have 500 rooms at £1 and 500 rooms at £29 available; that’s 5 rooms each night at £1 and 5 rooms at £29 available every day from the 1st February to 30th April 2008.

During our last sale, in October, we made some improvement to our on-line booking system but, sadly, it is still not perfect. Please bear with us – we continue to work with our technology partner to make the system easier to use.

To make the sale as fair as possible, you are only allowed to book one room, for one night at £1. If we find anyone misbehaving, we will cancel all their bookings.

In previous sales, we have had over 200,000 people trying to book these rooms. We are expecting a similar amount of traffic during this sale so you may not be successful. However we still have other bargains available including:

· Rooms for just £79 over the Easter weekend

· All Sundays in June are currently just £30

To help make the process easier and to try and reduce confusion we have provided a clearstep-by-step guide of how to book (click here for the full details.) The quicker you are the luckier you will be...

All the best for 2008.

David Taylor
General Manager

I gather that it is one 1GBP rate per customer...

Will the site allow you to make one booking for multiple days - ie book your 1GBP room and book rooms on subsequent nights at varying rates on one reservation - or do you have to make two reservations, one for your 1GBP room and another at other rates?

Thanks for the help...
