I wish I wasn't. But this is one of the reasons why I didn't bother booking any of these.

Unfortunately, my July booking is still intact, and I would like the hotel to cancel for some courtesy points. But I am with you - there is no way the hotel or IHG will honor this kind of deal (Hyatt or SPG would).

I think your overgeneralization is not supported. For example, SPG's Phoenician did not honor an error rate in March 2013 for its Villas.

What is it that you think you got right? All of my bookings are intact in the rooms I originally booked in.

Except that, ummm, IHG does have a history of honoring mistakes of exactly this type.

Although, I do find it in remarkably poor taste to book a room not to use, but rather only to hope the hotel cancels so one can extort compensation.

C'mon, moral police, of all RGN bookings you made back in 2012, did you intend to fly all of them?

Looks like some people has a track record to speak from both sides:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/19416061-post1499.html

I was responding to somebody that stated it wasn't I good idea to book a ticket on each site due to LH canceling duplicate tickets.

I stated that I booked the tickets on different days to deal with that issue, I.e. travel on Feb 1 for TL and travel on Feb 2 for EX.

I was simply stating, since the tickets are refundable, to hold onto both until this all plays out since we don't know what is going to happen.

I certainly didn't book them hoping the airline would cancel and give me compensation, and I flew every single one that was honored except for one I had to cancel due to a business conflict.

Speaking from both sides?! The reasoning for booking multiples is explained in the thread (not just the specific post you linked to), and it certainly has nothing to do with seeking compensation, and everything to do with trying to fly.

I am not sure what the point is of you researching past threads, as you won't find any smoking gun. Nor am I the "moral police", I have never dictated to anybody what they should and shouldn't be doing with regards to these fares/rates. I simply stated my opinion that I find it in bad taste to book specifically to get compensation.

Actually I have had trouble with both Hyatt and SPG in such situation, both cases referred to the Attorney General Consumer Office.

Just from a three night stay last week at the IC Samui using this deal.

Great stay, all of the staff were fantastic and made this one of the most enjoyable stays I've had at any resort in Thailand. The new GM is very hands on always busy interacting with the guests ensuring everyone's stay is going well and addressing any problems directly. He has recently moved from the IC Hua Hin.

Now for the rooms!!

I had 3 bookings; night 1 in a pool villa, night 2 in a regular deluxe and night 3 in the 3 bed villa (this was the best I could book at the time). Before check in these were all showing as being downgraded to a regular deluxe.

Upon check-in the agent said she was looking to assigning to same room for all 3 nights, I was then given a one bed beachfront pool villa for my entire stay, this was perfect for myself as I was travelling alone on this trip and didn't want the hassle of packing and changing rooms every day.

Whist being escorted to the villa personally by the GM he was more than happy to honour the original booking including the 3 bed villa if I'd wanted to change rooms.

An excellent stay I couldn't have asked for more. Thank you to the op.
