I believed all this gushing praise and actually showed up at the airport several hours early just to check it out. After hours of exploring and checking out the *A lounges (best RCC, worst SQ lounge I've been in) the thing that most impressed me was how the swarm of UA gate agents tried to herd up the pax into not-so-little loading groups (with some success) without the use of ropes or corrals.
Try out the Cathay lounges instead. And the shopping and dining offerings really are something extraordinary as well as the airport train.

Indeed - guaranteed 20-50% more expensive than in Hong Kong itself!

I hate that thing. Not as much as the one in T2 in NRT, but a real PITA and a blight on an otherwise fine airport. Biggest issue for me is the escalators clog on the way down (stand on the right, walk on the left, anyone?) and on the way up...

Oh, that´s a Universal rule. I still tend to enjoy it. Shanghai is much worse if downtown and airport prices are compared.

I like HKG, but SIN is the best, imo. Getting from the plane, through immigration, and out into a taxi is ridiculously fast at SIN. And, not only is the place always completely spotless, it smells nice, too. I do like HKG, though.

Any idea if there are stores selling miniature die-cast aircraft models (1:400) at the HKG airport? Or am I better off buying them from a store in town?

In the Check-in/Departures Hall of Terminal 1, landside (before Immigration) right in the middle of the hall near the escalator to the restaurants on the upper level, there is a store that sells a decent selection of die-cast and plastic airplane models ranging from 1:500 scale up to about 1:200. As you might expect, lots of Cathay Pacific planes. Prices comparable to Toy Studio in Bangkok and similar stores.

Thanks for sharing. People in Hong Kong or visiting HK should by now realize that everybody has a video-phone on them. You do something stupid or crazy, and you will be on YouTube. Guaranteed.

What is she saying? Did she have a good excuse for throwing a 3 minute tantrum (e.g. have to get to a funeral)?

Fortunately, Bus Uncle is still on YouTube. It'd be a shame if that's taken down.

Back on topic...

The last couple of times I passed through HKG, I saw construction of what looks like a satellite concourse in the area formerly taken up by remote airplane parking stands to the north of the main Y-shaped building. I can't imagine that it is anything other than a satellite concourse. Can anyone confirm? Any details on the expected opening date? Any idea which airlines will commonly use it, and how it will connect to the main building?

I'm curious.
