Question about HKG connection times
I will be arriving into HKG at 5 in the morning from YYZ on CX. Would a connecting flight (separate ticket on TG) departing at 7:55 be too tight of a connection? My other option is a flight leaving at 18:30. I will not have checked bags.

No - minimum connecting time at HKG CX-TG is 60 minutes. You'll have a couple of hours to spare in the lounge.

2hr 55min way more than enough. All he/she has to do is walk over to the transfer desk to get the TG BP. But will need to re-clear security at one of the transfer areas.

If OP can get the onward BP at the origin, there is no need to go to the transfer desk and OP can just get to the transfer security.

OP will much more than enough time for the connection.
