"Over the weekend, the bridge served more individual passengers than the 2008 estimation of 62,525 per day. Chan said around 35,000 passengers used the bridge each day last week, whilst 68,000 used it on Saturday, and 78,000 on Sunday. Long queues formed at the Hong Kong port on Sunday evening, as passengers awaited shuttle buses."

"Some visitors said they had queued for more than two hours and still had not got on a bus."

According to Hong Kong's Minister for Transport Frank Chan, this is to be expected:

“Passenger flows will be more concentrated in the hours when people go home, so travellers needed to wait longer."

definately.
they had 3 hour queues a few days back.
and kwun tong to macau was a 4 hour ride because u have to wait for everyone on the bus to get back on the bus.

as typical as all china projects they are never thought through.

back to the ferry

That said, getting across the bridge is a bit cumbersome: bus to HK immigration point, shuttle across the bridge to Macau/Zhuhai immigration point, local transport onwards. Given the large scale on which Chinese public transport works are built, I suspect there's a lot of walking.
it sounds silly, but its smarter.
my friend who took it says its a waste of time. and bus was full of smelly people who is looking for a cheap way to go to china - i guess they all smell like that. like the airport gates where they congregate before a flight

If you don't know where you are going at the checkpoints, it will be longer.

The only saving grace is that the bus ride on a new road is smoother than the ferries for many.
hydrofoils are rather smooth and the road to the bridge isnt any smoother.

Also, the long tunnel is quite claustrophobic according to interviews with the first few day's riders
