advice on stopopover

Hey guys, I am planning a trip to Asia in the end of December.
My main places to visit will be DEL and KTM.
On the way out of KTM I will have a stopover left in my award ticket.
Based on the flights I can get I could stopover at BKK,MFM,HKG or TPE.
Plus I can make an under-24h stop in any of them.

The stopover will be 2 days at most, so nothing extensive. Which destination would you suggest for stopover vs >24h stop?

Thank you in advance!
Mostly interested in cultural/historical tour/overview.

Hong Kong, although hotels there are likely to be more expensive than in the other places on your short list. Food prices there have a very wide range, from street vendors through luxury restaurants. (Be careful about live or fresh market fish and never point without asking the price.)

Depends if you plan on visiting the region again in the near future. HK would be my top pick but not for only two days. BKK deserves more than 2 days too. You can easily cover the main tourist sights in MFM or TPE in two days.

I, for one, don't go to HK to visit tourist sites; rather, I like to eat, swim, pop over to Stanely Market, and hang out in Wanch or Soho. Two days is more than enough for this. Just my two cents.

+1. I can't speak to the other stopover options, but I love HK -- but not for culture. I go for the food and the general buzz of the place. There are lots of places to see on a visit to HK, especially on a first visit, but they not sure they fit into 'culture' or not. BKK may have more to offer on that front.
