Yes, that's what I understood from before. But I want to hear from Lauren if that is still the case, or if things are different with this new offer.

Also, if you currently hold the No AF H Amex, can you apply for and get the Aspire with bonus? I believe many years in the past that cardholder also had the Ascend, but it has been cancelled for several years.

Hi Joe,

Double checked on this for you. The offer is only available to new Card Members who applied for the product on or after 9/7 via the promotional link. Promotional offers may vary at any time. While we are unable to credit the difference of the promotional points, we are always creating new offers to help our existing Card Members earn more points. Please check your online American Express account for any special offers.

Thanks for posting,
Lauren

Lauren,

I sent a PM earlier, but a few of us Surpass/Ascend cardholders are asking for some info about moving to the Aspire card.

Your earlier post seems to indicate that Surpass/Ascend cardholders are not eligible for the promotion.

However, the first line of the promotion T&C says "Welcome offer not available to applicants who have or have had this Card". I've never had an Aspire card, so am I eligible for the promo?

Yes! Working on it as we speak (post!).

Thanks!

I'm currently set up for AA and I'm pretty sure DL is on the list too.

I upgraded Ascend to Aspire for 100k a few months ago. I never got an email about my offer, but it was buried in the Promotions & Offers section for my card on the Amex site.

I scroll through that once every month or two. It's mainly full of useless stuff (65-70 total offers), but every now and then there's a $50 off $250 spend at a specific HH brand. (Right now, for me, it's Embassy Suites and Homewood.) While looking for those, I noticed the 100k offer and decided to take it. No credit pull, instant upgrade in card type, Diamond status showed within a day, new physical card in about a week, Free Night cert came about 90 days later.

I would be all over that offer.

Could someone enlighten me? I read these threads and I see a bunch of complaints from people who just applied for the credit card when it had a lower bonus.

The American Express rule is one bonus for each card type. So, if someone has applied for the card when it had a lower bonus, but has not yet spent enough on the new card to get the bonus, why not simply cancel your new card, and apply again while it has a higher bonus, and get the higher bonus? The rule is one bonus per lifetime, not one card per lifetime.

Am I missing something?

Lauren-i am checking to see if you have an answer on this as well. I was told yesterday via Chat on my Surpass/Ascend account that I would be eligible for the welcome bonus on the Aspire card but I would like to get your confirmation on this.
Thanks!

Actually, is that the rule? And I ask that for clarification only (not as a challenge). About 5 years ago, when the Amex (unnamed) Airlines card increased its signup bonus, I was able to reapply and get the DIFFERENCE between the bonuses. So if I got 20000 miles in my first round and they increased it to 30000 miles, I was able to get the difference of 10000 miles. Is it different now? I was planning on waiting out the year, and reapplying for the difference.

Have a look at this thread and the amex forum:

Can you clarify if I'm eligible for the promotion attached to the Aspire card? I currently have an AMEX Surpass card and have had it for 5+ years. There is a post indicating the promotion is for "new acquisitions". Does that mean customers new to the entire HH AMEX family, or new to the high-end Aspire card? Card members who have or have had the same product in the past are not eligible to receive the welcome bonus. For example, if you have, or have had, the Ascend product (this includes the Surpass product), you will not be eligible to receive the welcome bonus for a new Ascend application. Eligibility for the promotional offer may also be based on other factors including, but not limited to, American Express history with welcome offers, introductory APR offers, or the number of Cards members have opened and closed.

Also, if you currently hold the No AF H Amex, can you apply for and get the Aspire with bonus? I believe many years in the past that cardholder also had the Ascend, but it has been cancelled for several years. I'm still confused. Never had the Aspire, but do have both the Ascend (in husband's name) and I have the no fee Hilton Amex. I did have the Surpass several years ago.

Can either of us apply for the Aspire, which neither of us have EVER had, and get the bonus?

Sorry to be so dense.

I initially commented this in a different thread but I think its more fitting here:

Does anyone have experience with AMEX warning message before application. I was believe I shown that warning message wrongly as I've never had any AMEX Hilton card and 0 AMEX card opened in the past 24 month, only HHonor card I've had was the Citi HH no AF card back in 2014 which was PC'd to double cash in 2015. My relationship with AMEX goes back to 2015 when I opened EDP card and that is the only AMEX card I have at the moment, I have also had AMEX plat for 2 years and closed that earlier in May this year.

I did not proceed with my application once that message appeared so my question is has someone seen that message incorrectly, should I call AMEX and has someone in the same boat successfully resolved this ?

The warning message roughly said "rtgta, based on your history with American Express welcome offers, introductory APR offers, or the number of cards you have opened and closed, you are not eligible to receive this welcome offer. We have not yet performed a credit check. Would you still like to proceed?

Edit- Update incase someone encounters similar issues.
I first tried chatting with CSR and he acknowledged that I donot have a HHonors card and by reviewing my account informed me I should be eligible for the bonus but he recommended that I lodge phone application which I did but nada. Phone rep put me on hold for ~60 minute during which I was transferred to two departments. Finally I spoke to a nice lady from 'global application team' she accepted that there might be technical glitch as there was no reason she could see that makes me ineligible for the card. She also informed me that subsequent applications (I tried applying for Aspire then Ascend online and finally Aspire over the phone) received same error because if the system glitches once same information is retained for 30 days. She has created a ticket and recommended me not to apply until they resolve this.
