Lifetime Diamond Status with HHonors is now reality. ^

More recent information posted by Lauren (Hilton Honors Representative) reflects changes in the Honors Lifetime Diamond qualifying criteria:

A few months ago, we received some great feedback in the Q&A thread with our VP of Hilton HHonors, Aaron Glick. While the team explores a number of initiatives, one area that we could change quickly was our Lifetime Diamond qualifications. As of January 2017, we will grant Lifetime Diamond to all members who have met the following criteria:

• Members who have maintained Diamond status for at least 10 years (years do not need to be consecutive)

AND

• Have stayed at least 1,000 nights - either paid or reward (as you may know, only paid nights were eligible before)

OR

• Have accumulated 2 million Base Points since joining the Hilton HHonors program (this is a new feature to enable more members to enjoy Lifetime Diamond status; also as a reminder, only Base Points are eligible...Bonus Points earned via promotions, co-brand credit cards, or other means do not count towards status)

So now, there will be essentially two ways you can qualify for Lifetime Diamond:
1. 10 years at Diamond with Hilton HHonors + 1,000 nights (including paid and reward)
2. 10 years at Diamond + 2 million cumulative Base Points

An email notification will go out in February to members who have qualified for Lifetime Diamond as of December 31, 2016. If you want a sneak peek to find out if you will qualify, you can contact the Diamond Desk and the team will be happy to help.

Please reach out with any questions or comments, and I’ll be sure to share them directly with Aaron and team.

Thank you!
Lauren

Details for the first inductees were announced on the 11th Feb. 2015. Erin (HHonors Rep here on FT) posted the announcement shortly before the emails were sent out to members on the same day.

Initially, Lifetime Diamond Status will go to a select group of members who met all of the following criteria as of December 31, 2014:
  • Have maintained Diamond Status for at least 10 years (consecutive or concurrent) and
  • Completed paid stays totaling at least 1,000 nights
Members that met this criteria as of December 31, 2014 will be notified via email and receive their Lifetime Diamond Status in the mail at the physical address on their account at the end of February. Members that meet Lifetime Diamond Status criteria in the middle of the year will receive Lifetime Diamond Status at the beginning of the following year.

Please note that we are in early stages of this benefit, which means that elements of this offering may evolve and may change over time. As I hear of any updates, I will be sure to share those here.

As always, your input is truly valued and we welcome your thoughts and feedback during this launch period. We’re here and listening!

Thanks,
Erin
[B]Initially, Lifetime Diamond Status will go to a select group of members who met all of the following criteria as of December 31, 2014:

All paid stays count — not just the paid stays during the years a member is a Hilton HHonors diamond.

As more information becomes available it will be added here. Should you have any updates please post them in the thread or in this wiki to keep the most pertinent info quickly available to those interested.

For those interested, the development unfolded as follows:

Erin, the HHonors rep on FT posted the following on 16/12/2014: (after some eagle eyed attention by adambrock from an email sent out by Hilton and which he thankfully posted here on FT: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilto...tus-email.html Kudos to adambrock for noticing and sharing it with the community. ^)

HHonorsRepresentative (Erin) wrote in that thread:

In 2015, HHonors will begin introducing Lifetime Diamond Status! As you may know, we’re always looking for new ways to reward you and we take into consideration your feedback on ways to recognize our most loyal members. Over the past several years, we’ve heard from you that Lifetime Diamond Status is important to you and I’m thrilled to announce that we will be inviting some of our most tenured Diamond members into this status.

I’ll have more details for you in early 2015 and I understand our first Lifetime Diamond members will receive their invitations in the early part of 2015. At this time, this is all the information I have on Lifetime Diamond Status, but I will do my best to keep you all updated as I hear more!

Sounds to me like the agent was wrong then. The rules seem pretty clear. But maybe someone decided to override the system and give it to you?

You spurred me on to try the same approach via online chat. However, I didn't get the same result as you. Told I've been Diamond for 15 years, 754 nights and over 1.4 million points. He then told me I need 246 nights or just under 0.6 million points to achieve Lifetime status. However, it did make me realise how much I've spent at Hilton over about 20 years! We have had some great holidays though! Look forward to hearing whether you do actually achieve Lifetime status.

I'm kind of wondering if this has to do with the jacked-up system problems they've been having.

I've got some free time, so I hit the chat window as well. Vague, weirdly phrased responses. Ultimately, they confirmed I'm LFD, but I don't know... I'm wondering if their system doesn't show an expiration date because I've got a recent Aspire card.\

I don't have the nights (I'm a bit south of 1000 nights, and WAIT UPDATE - I talked to Hilton again today, MAYBE I'VE GOT THE POINTS)

Transcript of chat:

You're now chatting with HiltonChatRep.

HCR: I see you were looking at some of our properties. What questions can I answer for you today?

Me: Are you able to tell me how near I am to Lifetime Diamond?
HCR: Not a problem. Let me transfer the chat to our dedicated team. They will help you further.

You're now chatting with SecondHiltonChatRepDedicatedTeamPerson.
HCR2: Thanks for contacting Hilton. My name is X. I'm reading the conversation that you've had with my colleague and I will be right back with you in a while.

Me: Appreciate it.
HCR2: Please help me with your HH account number.
Me: xxxxxxxxx
HCR2: Thank you. May I know your registered e-mail address and the phone number?
Me: xxx xxxxxxxxxxxx
HCR2: Thanks for providing me the details.
Me: No problem. I know them by heart.
HCR2: You are now eligible for the life time diamond status.
Me: So I am currently a "Lifetime Diamond" level guest?
HCR2: I would please to inform you that you are eligible for it but due to some technical issues it is not automatically updated to your account, But we have a dedicated team to update it for it which is already working on it so very soon it will be updated automatically.
Me: What does "eligible for it" mean? That I *am* a Lifetime Diamond, it just hasn't registered or updated to my account yet?
HCR2: It means you are eligible for lifetime diamond status, and we are already working on it so it will be updated very soon.
Me: I'm asking what does "eligible" mean?
I *may* be Lifetime Diamond, or I *am* Lifetime Diamond?

HCR2: You required 10 years in diamond status which you have already completed so now you are a lifetime diomand status but it will be updated to your account very soon.
Me: Ok. Thank you for that information. Do I expect a welcome email and/or gift?
H
CR2: Sure very soon you will get it.
Is there anything else that I can help you?

Me: Can I request the Lifetime Diamond card?
HCR2: After updating your status you can surely request for it. (We will update your status on our side and it will show in your account.)
HCR2: Anything else can I help you.

Me: I suppose that's it. You've confirmed that I am now Lifetime Diamond Status, but it hasn't yet been updated to my account, but will show up soon. Thank you for your looking into this question and Hilton's answer to it!
HCR2: Thank you for contacting Hilton have a nice day.

Well.....

I got both an email and a call from an "Escalation Specialist"

He told me that the Honors Chat Rep was simply mistaken, that there was no "leveraging" to be had and they had to have hard and fast rules to protect the "integrity" of Lifetime Diamond.

No matter what I said, he would not budge. And simply said the wrong-answering chat rep would be "counseled."

Not at all surprising; would not expect accuracy from a chat rep, given the numerous issues noted in this forum.

Since Hilton hired a new company to manage the IT for Honors, a lot of things have gone wrong. (And it looks like some are getting worse, not better.) One feature of the new system is that it shows agents members' progress toward lifetime diamond (years of diamond membership, nights stayed and total base points). The problem is the lifetime diamond team believes (but have so far been unable to prove) that the numbers it is showing are, at least in a lot of cases, incorrect. There is, as far as I know no estimate for when the validity of the numbers will be verified - let alone how long it will take to fix, if it isn't counting correctly.

You're right- apparently the issue is that reward nights are not being reflected. In my case some 200 nights disappeared from my total when asking.

I'm happy to be corrected if you have better info-but as I say, the matter is reward nights?

Recognition of LTD is not like other status, it is not in place the minute you hit it, at least in the past. Once a year, late winter early spring, hilton processes them all as a batch. At that point your status will reflect it and you'll get your gift. My guess this is what the wording of you being eligible means.

It appears that I have been a Hilton Diamond member for 7 years now (also consecutive) and have 1021 paid nights as of this entry. My base points seems rather low at just over 1,000,000. It was just confirmed by the Hilton chat rep that 10 years of Diamond status plus either 1,000 paid nights or 2,000,000 base points to qualify for lifetime Diamond status. Three more years of maintaining Diamond status to achieve lifetime diamond. Nice.

I wish they would display the lifetime information in the app. If it is currently inaccurate though I suppose they need to fix this before they can consider doing this.

Now that Marriott is showing this I hope Hilton follows soon.
