Need help using miles

I've been accumulating Continental FF miles and now have over 200,000 but I can't find the best way to use them. Times are tough these days and it's the only way for my family to vacation this summer. We will be leaving from Newark and our destination is, well thats another problem, can't decide. This is where you come in, please help. My family of 5, (kids 20, 17, 14) just wants to go somewhere and "hang out".
I'd like to use my points for air and land. Please help.

Your criteria is a little broad. Do they want beach, theme parks, mountains, in the US, out of the US? Can you narrow it down a bit?

Is 200,000 miles all you have to work with? Do you also have any Hilton points for the hotel? 200,000 miles won't get a family of 5 airfare AND a hotel room unless I've been doing it wrong

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

Theoretically, it will get most of it. 5 CO tickets in the US = 125,000 miles, leaving 75k to work with.

The other 75k = 150k HH points, which will get a GLON or a GLONP (assuming VIP stutus with Hilton is obtained). This means that one more hotel room will have to be purchased, seeing as 3 kids that age don't want to stay with mom and dad anymore.

Please note, though, that I said "theoretically," as the horror stories of actually redeeming CO miles, let alone for 5 award tickets for the same flights, are well-documented in the CO board. Put this in conjunction with finding available award space at a Hilton for five nights - and a lot of phone calls are in order, perhaps starting yesterday.

Thanks for the info so far. I checked my onepass account and I have 245,000 now and should be getting another 15,000 next month. So I'll have 260,000 miles to work with. I have some Hilton points but not much.

I'll narrow it down a little. Beach would be our choice. Can be either in US or not.

Date would be 1st week in August.

Thanks for your help.

You may wish to check out the Phoenix resorts on TEEN.

For that matter, you should be familiarize yourself with all the VIP Awards.

And avail yourself of these hotel finding, booking, and upgrading tips.

True, but don't forget NW, and soon (hopefully) DL redemption.

20,000 miles converted to 40,000 points will get you free companion tickets on AS, HP, YX, UA, and US. Not the best use of converted miles, but not the worst, either. Availability on HHonors flight rewards is generally more liberal than the stingier FF programs (UA is particularly easy to book IME; HP pretty good, too).

See some pointers here:
