VIP Hotel Award - Must Have Status At Time of Stay?
Do we need to have the VIP status only at the time we make the reservation for one of the VIP awards (e.g., ALON) and the time we request the issuance of the award certificate or do we need to have the VIP status all the way through the time of check-in for the award stay?

At time of issue of award.
I often book VIP stays (using my VIP points) for non VIP guests as gifts.

If you had trouble getting enough stays/days to maintain VIP status for next year just sign up for one of the HHonors Amex credit cards or the CitiBank Visa to keep your status for another year.
