Close to the beach..

Sorry, Cathaana, but I am used to our place at Tugan, where I dont even have to cross the road to get to the beach.
Anything on the west side of the Highway is deemed to be "far" from the beach.
Cheers
Iain

I know. I used to live right next to the Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club. That's close to the beach.
But here in FRA, a 5 minute walk is VERY close to the beach.

Thanks to the both of you. I have spent a great deal of time on various subject groups, including the Quantas link, and there are as many different opinions as there are threads, and like most future visitors to your great country, I want to maximize the limited time Ihave to spend doing the things that most interest me, including spending time at the beach. With this said, I think I will go with the Conrad on the Gold Coast. Once again, thank you for your input, it it truly appreciated!

I'll have to say, I'd add a couple of days in Brissie and enjoy, probably at the beginning of the trip. Beaches are nice (do eat some Moreton Bay bugs, assuming you like lobster at all,) but Brissie is a nice example of what one can do with a city, is eminently walkable, not to mention the City Cat... and IMO worth a look. The Hilton is nicely situated in the midst of it all, and there is great walking.

I don't know much about Brisbane itself (it was my jump off point for Noosa and Fraser Island), however the Hilton stay was one of the best I had. It is a wonderful building, and as a Gold the treatment was excellent (on an award stay): bottle of red wine amenity, and superb lounge.

BNE: Pearl of Queensland!

Either the H or the Conrad will treat you right - though the Conrad is also a huge casino, it is river-close. The Hilton is a tower in the middle of the pedestrian mall, an easy walk in either direction to more river, eats and entertainment, shopping... and the natives always seem like friendly lot.

Really, really nice once in a while to stumble upon such nice things written about my hometown, BNE...

Coming from where we now live in HKG - a place many people clamour to visit. But most days, I'd rather a relaxed Brisbane day, great weather, nice atmosphere, good food

The Conrad Treasury Casino in BNE is a pleasant stay - have done that once as an expat and enjoyed. Hilton in the Mall a bit too in the middle of the shops for me.

Enjoy!

Conrad Brisbane - Australia

I have heard that the Brisbane Conrad Treasury is dropping out of the "Conrad brand" and will from June/July 2005 not be part of HH's any more. I am also hearing rumours that the other Conrad in Australia at the Gold Coast, Conrad Jupiters will also be dropping out of the Conrad brand as well.

A friend who is getting married at the Conrad Treasury later this year, (Who I had signed up to Gold HH's so he could put his wedding costs through his room ac and get quite a few points just for the wedding) has been told that the hotel will be be rebranded and he won't get points.......

This is an interesting move by these hotels as they are the only Conrads in Australia at this point and are certainly better to stay in than the Bne Hilton etc. I am a member of the Hilton Diamond Club ( now called premium club) and although I get $55 room nights etc I always prefer to stay at the Conrad.

I had thought that the Conrad brand was expanding.......

I agree with you IainF.

The Conrad was always my pick of the hotels in Brisbane, but if they are going to seperate from the Hilton chain I think I will return to the Stamford or Brisbane Hilton if need be.

The only problem I have with the Conrad Brisbane is it really is hit and miss in terms of hhonors benefits.

I was there on Friday night and in a shameless upgrade attempt, mentioned my diamond membership, only to get the "We're not a Hilton" line, so didn't get anything. Other times it's no problem. I just find a real inconsistency with respect to the HHonors programme at this hotel.

The only problem with the rooms, is I find them a bit dark, otherwise they are quite nice.

G'bye, Jupiter Treasury or whatever... ~

In the end, the Brissie Conrad was always a Jupiters aimed at gamblers. I've ha d a great stay or two there, but it was always obvious it's targetted at the pokey players, etc. Now, it's not Hilton anymore, go with the Brisbane Hilton, a nice place with great service, a really nice lounge with superb views, and situated so you can walk plurry near anywhere- and there are lots of places to visit - or walk and take the City Cat on (like out for a waterfront munch at Bretts Wharf Restaurant) or take a taxi for a posh nicely lit riverfront dine at Oxley's On The River.

Brissie:-: is one of my favorite places.

Can you find a reference for this with precise dates for the changeover of the Conrad Treasury Brisbane? I did a quick Google search and couldn't find anything announced. Of course, there's nothing obvious on the hotel's Hilton HHonors website (http://conradhotels.hilton.com/en/ch...tyhocn=BNEHCCI) that says anything about this either.

I have an upcoming award stay at this hotel in early June, hence my concern.

... is happening? I ran Conrad Treasury Brisbane for accommodation through April 2006, and it all shows up as a Conrad and available. That certainly won't happen if you try the Hilton Fontainbleau, say.

I HATE it when I bite on a rumour!

Anyone contemplating staying at the Conrad, all I can recommend is CALL HILTON / HHONORS to get the dinky di. Then, post it here, if you please...
