IMHO deals in AC (all hotels) usually dont begin until the frost starts forming on the cars in the morning.

Need Advice - Hiltons along Jersey Shore

Just discovered this forum a week ago. I must say that I have learned a lot and hope to continue to learn from each of you.

Well, let's jump in with a post. I would like to followup a Manhattan visit in September with a visit to the Jersey Shore. Any recommendations on a Hilton family hotel beween Atlantic City and Cape May? I prefer not to stay in Atlantic City.

Besides the Hilton hotel and casino in Atlantic City, you are going to have to stay at a Hampton Inn. The one on the Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City is nice with a beautiful view of the bay. There are probably others along the way down to Cape May..check the website.

Thanks, ImNeverHome. I did check the website before I posted and came across 2 Hamptons. I understand that parts of Atlantic City are a bit seedy, and given that the one that you referenced is listed as West Atlantic City, I wanted to make sure that it wasn't in a bad section of town.

Both Hamptons are slightly seedy, a little worn (hey, itsa Atlantic City area for heavens sake) and dont leave valuables around or visible in your car. The northern-most one is far better and in a more populated and better area. I have stayed in both a number of times. The boardwalk Hilton Hotel is far better and far more expensive. Stay in the nicer newer higher tower.

Thanks, MisterNice. I couldn't find any decent deals, so I used Priceline to get a good hotel in Philadelphia. I'll drive to AC instead.

Manager's Receptions in NJ

Just a head's up for you ES fans out there and their Manager's Reception in the evening. In New Jersey they can only give you one free drink per day. Then they only charge $1 for following drinks.

THis was noted as "New Jersey State Law" at the Secaucus, Piscataway and Parsippany Embassy Suites that I recently stayed at!

Yes, they claim that, and have for awhile now, but it is kinda' bogus insofar as I can tell. LarryU tipped me off to this "law." Yet, I know a Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza not far from there that has a free "reception" with no obvious limit - though you must stand at the front desk and pour your own wine!

Man, I could have met you and bought you a drink, chex! Ya shoulda' called me!

I too have asked other folks in the NJ hospitality business about this alleged "law" and nobody knew anything about it. What is even more unfortunate at the ES Parsippany as that a little over a year ago they removed a significant amount of the liquor options, leaving behind only that which might make the imbiber blind. "Pitiful" is the word by friend Rudi used, who lived at this hotel for nearly two years. In fact, he just returned from a four week vacation in which he had an opportunity to sample many other Embassy Suites (and some Hiltons) and found their quality to be much better. I still return to the Parsippany location once in a while because I like some of the people there but their bar is a disgrace.

Ill be staying a long weekend in Central Jersey and was wondering if anyone has stayed at either the Hilton in East Brunswick or the Doubletree in Somerset. Any info would be great. Thanks!

I have been to the DoubleTree in Somerset a few times. You have to ask for breakfast coupons. They are for a nice hot and cold buffet. Rooms are nice clean and roomy. Nice lounge and restaurants. Beautiful lobby.

I did the East Brunswick and the new Garden Inn in Bridgewater.

East Brunswick is pretty nice-but you have to pay for parking overnight. The Garden Inn is very new, but does not have a lot more going for it. You can walk from the Garden Inn to a couple of restaurants (McD, Applebees, and ChuckECheese).

Am I the only person to find getting off of 287 and getting to the Somerset Doubletree confusing as heck? (probably)

Hilton Properties In/Near Atlantic City

We are thinking of driving to Atlantic City for a weekend in May and wondered if any FT'er has any suggestions as to which Hilton property would be the best from a value-amenity standpoint. FYI, I was told by a Hilton Atlantic City reservation agent that HHonors points are awarded only when the nightly rate is $125 or more and that the hotel is not really a Hilton. We are both Gold, if that matters.
