Please help finding good rate

Hey guys,

I am trying to find a good rate for my upcoming rental but to no luck. Maybe someone knows about some codes that I dont, I tried mostly all of them.

Here is the rental information:
Pickup/dropoff location: Wilmington, NC (ILM) airport
Pick up: August 13, 12:00P, US Airways flight 51
Drop off, August 18, 7:00P
Class car that I would like: G (prem.)

I am a member of AAA, and a Gold Member.

I am only finding rates in the 300's all in.

Thanks alot,
Ryan

Avis is somewhere around $250 for a premium car.

Or drop down to a fullsize and save $100 with Hertz.

If anyone else has any suggestions that would be great.

I appreciate it.

The one thing I see right away is that there's a huge price jump in F to G with those parameters. Just for the example I used, pre-tax, using 706900 CDP and no PC, the rate for F (Taurus) is $242.39, and the rate for G (Crown Vic) is $400.99. BTW, 706900 is probably a bit artificial in that way for this exercise, as it tends to have a very good rate for F and not that great a rate for anything above F.

Now I've put in CDP 215 (AAA), with no PC. The rates go down significantly, so AAA looks to be a good bet on this weekly. $199 and change for F, $262 and change for G. Still a pretty good gap, though, considering D is at $192 and C is at $178. (All these are still pre-tax quotes, don't get too excited.)

One thing I recall is that there are always some one-class upgrade coupons floating around out there. This might be the time to try that route, booking F and looking for upgrade to G. Or you might just book the F anyway and see what you get. That F rate is not staggeringly high for the week. You might be able to talk your way into something better than the G for a similar price difference, if that appeals to you.

I'll poke at this a bit more in a little while, but check the AAA site for the current list of coupons. There's always an upgrade in there, and I think it will upgrade you up to G. The only thing about that is I don't think it's "guaranteed" per se.

There also should be a $35 off coupon floating around, though maybe that expires before then.

Per what you said about the AAA cpns. and the AAA cdp, I found this by booking on AAA's website. Does this seem like the way to go?

That's probably the best option. Best I've found for booking actual Premium is to use the $35 off PC 988713 on the Hertz.com site, with AAA CDP. Results in a $284 and change total. Oddly, booking on the AAA site dropped the F rate another 10 bucks as you found, but their rate for the G was much higher. And you can still put in your ZE1 number looks like and get points.

Probably not much more room with other CDPs. Maybe there's one out there, but it appears a lot of them stop being a good deal after F. I put in USAA 77694, and it was $195 for F and then over $300 for G before any coupons/tax.

Basically, if you book the F with the upgrade coupon you're taking a gamble that you won't get a G. That said, you're saving over 50 bucks vs the actual G reservation, and you probably have a good chance of still getting one. I'd probably go with the upgrade booking, but it really depends upon how desperately you need the G car (for space or whatever reasons).

Good luck.

PS Worth noting that the $35 off is for any class, so if you really could get by with the F, you could shave some more bucks off that reservation instead of getting the upgrade.

I think its not worth the 50 dollars more, I will just go with the F reservation like you said. The G car I was thinking becuase of space but Its only 4 adults and about 4 peices of luggage, I fit the amount in a Impala before so Im thinking I should be ok, dont you think?

You'll be fine in just the F, I would think, no problem. I would consider using the $35 off coupon instead of the upgrade coupon.
