Question Hertz Local Edition and PC Upgrades

I'm looking to make two weekend rentals in the near future. There is a Hertz Local Edition near me. This is much better than making the 20 mile drive over to DFW.

I know at DFW, I would have a pretty good chance of getting a decent upgrade and chances for paid upgrades to a better car. I'd like to avoid the drive and rent local to my home in Fort Worth.

If I reserve a midsize car, what am I likely to get upgraded to at a Local Edition? I've got an entry in my profile for Non-Domestic Cars only (ie, I REALLY don't want that Ford Taurus).

HLE's generally have a much more limited inventory then airport locations, so you can probably expect a Camry or something if you don't do domestic.

My HLE loves me, so I rent Compact and always get at minimum an Impala (unless they have an Altima), but when they do get a Prestige or Town Car or G35 on return from SEA or PDX, they give that to me. But usually Impala is about as big as they have (outside of a Tahoe or Explorer), so that's what I get (since I really like the Impala).

I would call the location and tell them of your plans. If you talk to the manager, they normally help out as much as they can. I will say some locations are better than others. I've had to change my location to another because the changed managers and the new one was a total jerk. Didn't do anything at all for me each time I went into there.

But I was able to get back at them in one way. They don't like to have any Prestige class cars on the lot. They have to pay to have them returned to the airport. I've done this many times and and the look on her face is priceless. The new location could care less and they have been able to rent the car out to others with no problem.

Customer service is everything to me and I will not stay with a store if they don't like to give me the service I've come to expect. There is always another that is always there to help and is happy to do that for you.

Service and upgrades vary widely by location, but I do know that the locations have visibility to 5-Star and PC status. The one near me almost always provides upgrades.

That said, they have very limited inventory. My suggestion would be to pick your battles - for example, if they don't have a Camry but are offering you a Taurus for the midsize rate...so be it. Or if they have a midsize you like better than a Taurus, just live without the upgrade... The key - if you plan on renting an HLE local to your home - is to get to know the people there a little bit. They'll start taking good care of you whenever they can - as long as you are polite and friendly even when they can't give you the perfect car.
