How is a Jeep Compass an upgrade from a Volvo S60?

I rented a full-size in Brussels (FDMR) and I received a Carfirmation telling me a Jeep Compass (group R) is waiting for me... I thought group R was a premium SUV. Is a Jeep Compass a premium SUV now?

I'm President's Circle if it makes a difference.

Definitely not an upgrade (more of a downgrade to be honest), but rental companies get very creative when it comes to car categorising.

Since you are PC, why booked full size? I will not expect a S60 for a full size booking.

The S60 is the example vehicle for an FDMR. The example vehicle for the GFAR (aka R) class is the Volvo XC60, and I could seem them arguing that that's an upgrade (or at least comparable) to the S60. I'm really surprised the Jeep Compass is included in the R category, though, since that's hardly a "premium" vehicle.

A full size in Europe is different than a full size in North America. A full size in Europe will get you a C-Class, 3 Series, S60, etc

Also, in Europe, there isn't Ultimate Choice, so there's a reason to book full-size rather than intermediate.

Well, to conclude this... adventure, after giving me the keys to a car that was not the one in the stall I was directed to, arguing that the Compass was what I rented, then finally making me wait another 20 minutes to bring up a car from the service area, I drove off in a Mercedes C180... Guess I wasn't good enough for the upgrades ready to be picked up on the lot!

I've been renting from Hertz BRU once or twice a year for a few years now... and since I don't have to, the aggregate experience leads me to conclude it's time I quit while I am behind.

As a PC member, assuming that BRU provides gold service, then booking an intermediate makes sense, since that provides for an upgrade ; book a full size vehicle and there is no upgrade
