The easiest way is to get quotes for booking 1 day 1 hour , 1 day 2 hours and then 1 day 3 hours and see what the rates are
Depending on the country where you are renting in and which country's site you are using to make a booking, you are likely to find that 1 extra hour will be a 1/3 or 1/2 of the daily rate , so either 2 or 3 hours late and will be an extra day charge

OK. What would be the situation in Mauritius?
I see a surprisingly large jump when I book a few hours longer than a week. So I was wondering what would happen if I just booked for a week and then returned a few hours late.

Best thing to do is to make a booking for 1 week and 2 hours and then 3 hours and see what it prices as

So it does not depend on where I rent the car but where I live?
That doesn't help since I am trying to figure out the *difference* between booking it such ahead of time and what I would be charged if I book something and then return late.

It depends on which website you use. For example: hertz.com or hertz.co.uk etc.
None. It will be the same as booking for additional hours/days.
