How to avoid an SUV

Three times in the last year I've made a reservation for a car, only to be handed an SUV when I get to the HERTZ lot. My reservations have been one each for compact, intermediate, and full size. When I've gone back to the counter, only once have I been able to get a real car. (Three different cities. And only Hertz.)

Does anyone know a way to keep this from happening? Thanks.

You can ask Hertz to indicate in your profile that you prefer not to have SUVs. But if that's all there is when you get to the lot, you'll still be SOL.

You can do as Canuck says: have them enter a note in your profile. Mine says "No Crown Vic/Grand Marquis", I think.

Someone also told me once that there is an actual flag in the database that essentially says "Never upgrade". It's for Golds who always want exactly what they book. You could ask about that as well.

Thanks for the advice.

I checked the part of my "profile" which I can access on the web, and there isn't any way to access such a comment. So I've emailed them this request.

Thanks again.

Someone from Hertz emailed me back very promptly that they would put "no SUV" in
my profile.

What email address did you use? I've also been victimized by SUVs. (I like small cars, not giant Lincoln Navigators!) If only they would upgrade to the Jags and Volvos instead of SUVs...

I clicked on "Customer Support" on the bottom taskbar at
http://www.hertz.com/

I received an email back from [email protected].

Why is that when I want a small car (downtown Boston) I always get the upgrade to a SUV, but when I need one... I know I'll never get the upgrade, so I am forced to shell out major $ to get one.

Supply and demand?
Methinks it's a like upgrading to a convertible during April in Florida or Hawaii... versus a converitble in Montana in November.
