Adding 3 days to a week resv changes the resv to 2 weeks ?!
I have a dream car resv from May 9-16, I tried to add 4 more days, to return on may 19 @ 730p (12 hrs later than org pick up) the online system seems to default to 2 weeks which makes zero sense to me..I could understand if I was adding 5 days..
Is this something they could fix when i go to pick up the car or hertz just doesn't believe in charging 3 days and 12 hrs

What would be the cost of having two reservations, i.e., if you actually returned it and took something else with the same rate (e.g., a Camaro SS instead of a Mustang GT)?

Hertz system is programmed to give you lowest rate based on your rate plan. Depending on the rate plan. Usually, three (sometimes two) additional hours is more the one extra day and system defaults to one extra day. I have no personal experience with four extra days, but it is possible that four extra days is more than one extra week and system defaults to one extra week. I have never rented Hertz for more than one week.
More than once, I have had to take a later flight in order to keep Hertz car for four days and three hours and pay for lower weekly rate instead of higher four day rate.
As your booking is for more than one week, it is possible that you qualify for two weeks rate instead of one week and four days. Have you tried booking two separate reservations, one week + four days, to check?

thanks for the replies guys..i'm flying in @ 7am on 5/9 and wanted to return on 5/19 @ 730p to fly out..my resv right now is to return @ 730a on 5/16
It's just much cheaper for me to drive the hr to IAD, return the vehicle and walk over to avis and grab something for the weekend ( avis is actually charging me 3 days and 12 hrs^

It's all in the rates. Very few rate classes at Hertz (or anywhere else I've checked) go beyond 2 or 3 extra hours before getting to the extra day amount. That Avis rate you're talking about would likely be the same if you kept it fully 4 days.
A rental of 4 days vs a rental of a week is a tossup in terms of how often which one is less money. In this case, a whole additional week is less money than 4 days. In some cases, 4 days is less money than a week. Depends upon rate class, car class, phase of the moon, etc.
Note that if your rental were ONLY 4 days (rather than a week plus 4 days), you might be forced into a 4-day rate even if the week is cheaper. (That is highly unlikely though unless the 4 days are midweek.) Because you already have a week, the system will give you a second week rate if that is cheaper than the 4 days.
The upshot is, you know you could stay for yet another 3 days at the same rate, if you wanted.
Or, the other upshot is, the non-Dream Car rental for your additional days will be a lot less money, even if you also get that one from Hertz rather than Avis.
If you want to test my theories, price a standalone rental for the Dream Car for those 4 days and see what kind of rate you get. It would be interesting to compare that price to the price of adding them to your existing res.
