Angry Avoid TUL like the plaque

Live in Tulsa and used to rent locally when they had good weekend sales, just to drive something different and earn points. I would reserve a full size and would be upgraded to a Q4, more then what is required for PC, but was happy. The last two times they had a new guy at the booth who refuses PC upgrades. Last time was assigned a Camry and this time an Avenger, which used to be a Standard. I could see premium cars and would ask about them, and the guy would quote the upgrade price for me. Decided to go in and try someone else. The new guy pulls up my res and says "well we have an altima, but it has 33,000 miles on it. Told him PC was a guaranteed upgrade. He looks again and says we have a Maxima but that would be a double upgrade. Finally after the line is backed up he says I'll go ahead and give you an Equinox. Nice car, but was literally the farthest spot from terminal. One more spot and I would have been in Thrifty land. Get home and not only did my daily rate increase, but was charged a $15 a day upgrade fee.

Well, it's only one data point, but I had a great experience on my rental at TUL. I had a very cheap priceline name your own price reservation and the Hertz agent upgraded me at no charge without me even asking. Additionally, we were chatting a little bit and he gave me some good tips for things to do.

They used to be great, reserved a mid size and got several escapes and other SUV's, but this new guy working the gold boothis aweful. He should stay behind the regualr counter and sell upgrades. Decided to drop the car off at the HLE and the branch manager saw me and asked how I was and commented that she hadn't seen me in a while. Think I'll stick with the HLE for local rentals.

I also live in tulsa and have been renting cars for weekend roadtrips to Dallas or OKC. Last two rentals were a 2012 malibu with like 2000 miles on it, then i got the avenger which they now decide to classify as full size. It only had 3000 miles on it and i was in a rush and didnt want to go back inside to the counter to try and switch. Never been there once where the gold booth was actually open, always had to use the counter inside. However each time the agent asks those in line whos gold and just hands out the keys and contract. Got another rental this weekend, will see how things go. But overall nothing horrible from my experiences at TUL

Well the $9.99 a day rentals from Enterprise are $29.99. Perhaps the days of wine and roses and cheap car rentals are over...

Since last minute flights to XNA are sometimes off the chart expensive, I often land in TUL and drive.

Never had issues, even on one-ways.

Only issue is that sometimes it is just way too warm, but I think that is more to do with Oklahoma than TUL

Finally heard back from Hertz. Got the usual "sorry we didn't live up to our standards, etc". The are crediting back the upgrade fee of $15, plus some taxes.

Part of the problem is Tulsa is a small market. Premium is no longer reservable. Luxury is usually sold out. I've seen Mustangs and Cameros, but they are not reservable. National is the same way. Can only book up to a full size then SUV's and vans. Since its not an Aisle location, you likely get an Impala.
