A week in Puna?
I'm making my third trip to the Big Island this December (before Xmas) and thought I'd like to do something a bit different. I really loved the day I spent in Puna last year, and am contemplating trying to find a cottage rental near Champagne Pond or the tidepools and spending the whole week there on my own.
Am I crazy? I know it's remote, but what I really love to do most is just hang out by the water and snorkel. I also really liked the eastern side of the island in general, so on the one or two days I left the property I'd be close to the other things I'm interested in.
Thoughts from anyone who's done this or spent more time in Puna than 6 hours? Anything I should know/consider while looking at VRBO?

www.punaguide.com without the smiley face attached should work better.
Being a resident of Puna, I highly recommend visiting the Kilauea ocean entry. We are currently getting fountains of lava 200 feet high along with lightning in the steam/gas plume. Quite a show, but it could stop any time. Be careful about vacation rentals in Kapoho/Champagne Pond. Some are outstanding, and some are dumps. I recommend using only licensed rental agencies with references. Enjoy your visit.
