Advice for a newbie !
Hello All……..
I’m starting into planning a trip to Hawaii for our Honeymoon next Feb (’07)
We’re going to be in the SFO area for a while & are thinking about going over to Hawaii for a week. My soon to be wife has always had a desire to see Hawaii & I spent the 80’s watching Magnum PI. Other than that I know absolutely nothing about Hawaii !!
I’m a bit confused with the various destinations that are there, Maui, Big Island, Honolulu etc. So I’m not sure where to go !
Also I’m a bit concerned with the “rainy season” that I think is around Feb / Mar each year, so I don’t know if it’s the correct time to go at all !
Other than luxuriating in a really nice hotel with a health spa, pool & beach area, we would also like to visit Pearl Harbour & I would really like to see some of the locations used in Magnum PI. There is I believe a website where you can get the various locations used for the show, which I think is on the island with Honolulu ??
I’m sorry about my complete naivety about Hawaii, but I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions offered……….
Thanks in advance……… ^

Hi kered,
Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding!!
Pearl Harbour and Honolulu are on Oahu ( the most populated island) -the major hotels are on Waikiki Beach. Most flights from the mainland will arrive at HNL airport.
Honolulu is about a 5 hour flight from SFO ( just over 2k miles).
AA would give you BA miles
CO/Hawaiian woould give you VS miles ( from SFO - I do not know if DL/NW fly from SFO)
If this is your first time to Hawaii and with only a week I would probably choose only 1 island to visit ( 2 at the most) as you will want to enjoy your honeymoon rather than the airport terminals!!
Oahu is ok for a few days but Waikiki can be very touristy.
I enjoyed the Big Island of Hawai'i with the volcanos and stayed at the 62 acre Hilton Waikoloa village resort for a week.
In Waikiki I liked the hilton Hawaiian Village which has a good spa and a large sandy beach beside the hotel ( other hotels along the Waikiki beach such as the Hyatt & Marriott you have to cross the road to get to the beach)
I am biased towars hilton !!
and try to stay there and otheres may recommed the Marriott or Starwood ( do you have status in any chains?)
Enjoy!
Regards

There's quite a bit of information on the various islands here in the forum FAQ - you might want to take a look at them to get a feel for things to do, where to stay, etc.
As far as the Magnum P.I. locations, they are all on O`ahu, but please note the majority are private and not open for tours.
The "Robin's Nest" estate is near the town of Waimanalo as is the pier where T.C.'s "Island Hoppers" office was.
Here's a website I found...

Thank you all for your input, & thanks “TBS” for your good wishes.
I’ll digest all the input so far & intend doing research over the weekend.
Thanks again…… ^
