So I made arrangements for a trip to Hawaii (yay!) and am splitting the stay between the Big Island (yay!) and Oahu (yay!) Unfortunately, now that I'm trying to make hotel reservations, I find that virtually everything on Oahu is booked for the weekend because it's the marathon (frump.) So far, the best I've been able to manage is the Ihilani for $220/night which was a little more than I had hoped to spend, but better than the $400+/night that most of the left-over available rooms seem to be running. Anyone have any other ideas? I don't need to be in Waikiki as I've been a number of times and will have a car (plus, I would think the traffic will get a little snarly during the race.)

Also, thinking of trying to get someone to sponsor me so I can stay in the military camp in the Volcano Park on Big--has anyone stayed there before? It seems to get pretty good reviews on tripadvisor, versus Volcano House.
