Question Is there an alternative to inter-island Flights?

Title says it all. I found this thread about a future ferry:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=326811

I was wondering what the options were in November 2004 of getting from Maui to Kauai. Not that I have anything against AQ or HA, I just was wondering if there were other options.

As of now, there are no alternatives to flying between islands (with the exception of Maui and Molokai), but there are alternatives to Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines. Pacific Wings, Island Air, George's Aviation are a few who service the neighbor islands, and although they use prop planes instead of jets, their prices are usually cheaper then what's offered by AQ/HA.

You could also take the Pride of Aloha (search will bring up a thread) that's the new cruise line servicing Hawai`i. This would allow you to see all four main Hawaiian Islands within seven days (leave Sunday, arrive Sunday), spending about a day on each. Might be another option.

Until that new ferry comes along, though, it's fly or bust.

Island Air is having a fare sale at their site. Tickets for travel thru 05/31/06 are $39.00. Our family of 5 just saved $400.00!

You forgot the outrigger canoe option from Molokai to Oahu. I know someone who took part in such a race.

Flying might be faster.

Is that $39 PLUS the $10 airport tax or tax included. I found a good rate for booking in August for $54, which is $45 pp. I could be happy with that. I am concerned that if I wait, I will end up paying more since summer tends to be busy. There are baggage wt restrictions but I think we will be okay with that. The "over 50 lb" charge is $20.

The $39.00 included the tax but only through the end of May.
