Good luck to you!
Near Kapahulu. I love that part of Kaimuki but it sure was a disaster last week.
It has been raining hard here since about 11am and we just got another flash flood watch notice. I have a friend at Maunalani Rehab up in Wilhelmina Rise that I had planned to visit today but I don't think it's a good idea.

Yeah, that is pretty crazy.

My wife and I were studying those pics, which others labled as the Marketplace. That parking lot is the Manoa Innovation Center, not the Manoa Marketplace.

I think you are correct. https://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/2026/0...uations-manoa/
Another friend who lives in Hawaii Kai just told me that Kalaniana'ole Hwy is closed near Makapuu due to a sinkhole.

As we continue to watch with concern its not primarily concern for our upcoming two weeks in May but for the residents and business owners. How much more of a beating can the Islands take?

Whether a once in a lifetime or twice a year trip, visitors expect a certain Aloha spirit and we are reminding ourselves that in many cases theres trauma behind the smiles and to grant understanding, patience and grace accordingly.

Although most of Haleiwa town has been spared the most serious flood damage, spring break business has plummeted with visitors staying away.

“It’s not only just the business owners but it’s all of their employees, so a lot of people are affected when people are respectfully staying away from the community, and we get that and we appreciate that. But we really want to share with the public that we are open,” Philips said, referring to Haleiwa and other North Shore businesses.

It's a double-edged sword. But similar to my position on the calls from state authorities to avoid travel to Maui in the aftermath of the Lahaina fires, the calls I saw from some (to include residents) demanding that tourists stay out of the north shore were well-intended, but ultimately shortsighted. While many of the demands touched on the physical/logistical challenges of having an influx of tourists on the roads with recovery efforts taking place, quite a few of the demands were from people simply angry that others would dare continue on with vacation plans while residents were struggling. But such cries ignored the fact that (1) many on the north shore and elsewhere lacked flood insurance and (2) need money from their local jobs/businesses to fund repairs and rebuild.

I am curious to know how and whether HPD is in the area helping with traffic flow, which can help alleviate many of the concerns around clogged roads. Even during normal times, many of the traffic jams up on the north shore are caused by pedestrians constantly crossing back and forth on Kam Highway to get to and from the beach. Then there's this four-way stop sign getting closer to where they have the Spartan race that causes backups.
