HA On Time?

I know HA promotes their on-time record as being good.

I am transfering from AA to HA with a 40 min connection time. Is this do-able? I'm pretty familiar with the airport and can run it if need be. I won't be in First, just behind it. I can also check in for the connection online so I am confirmed. I guess the only thing is if AA is late, then I could be stuck.

I called HA and they said the minimum time for bags is 90 minutes. I don't think I'll be checking any bags, or I would have to wait 2 hours for the next flight.

What do you think?

It's a bit tight, but if you agressively push it, you should make it (assuming there are no other delays).

I'd suggest reading through this excellent post by slippahs to give yourself the best shot.

You should be able to make it, assuming that your inbound isn't delayed too much. I'm assuming you're connecting in HNL, in which case you'd probably want to motor it upon disembarking. The HA flights (especially interisland) are known to push back early if running on-time or a couple minutes early.

i've made a connection in 20 minutes at hnl, but everything was working just right. the wiki wiki was right outside and took off immediately, and we walked on last on the inter-island. cross fingers. if not, shouldn't be a big deal (unless it is a day when everything is sold out).

i've always eventually made it home to kauai on the same day, although there have been a few times when everything was sold out and i was on waitlist, when i thought i'd surely have to stay in hnl overnight.

Any head wind and you don't stand a chance. I would not cut it that close unless its refundable.

that is not the issue with ha inter-island. if you miss your flight and they have room they will try to accommodate you, and probably nothing will be said about the too short connection time. at worst, they could charge a small fee, but i doubt they will.
