Absolutely! That will be great! I am pretty sure they can fly nonstop from HNL to SIN, HKG, LHR or LGW, BKK, or anywhere else.

Anyway, congrats to Hawaiian Air to orders the 787-9 Dreamliner. I am pretty sure they will like it.

Back in the day, didn't HA fly L1011's with 10 across seating (rather than 9 like most airlines) or am I having a "senior" moment here?

United had 10 across at some point: Vintage Airline Seat Map: United Airlines L-1011-500 - Frequently Flying smoking rows! LOL

Not sure about HA.

The published range for the plane is 7,635 nmi (14,140 km): Boeing: 787 Dreamliner

So, London, Paris, Buenos Aires, and many other destinations are all in range:

Are you kidding?!? HA is most likely going to do 2-2-2 lie flats, similar to the A330. As a poster said above, we can only hope that Extra Comfort seating will be 2-4-2. Regular economy will definitely be 3-3-3.

Not kidding about my aspirations to have 1-2-1 seating. I imagine that anyone on a 12-15 flight looking for a J experience would feel the same. However, for interoperbility reasons, I don't expect HA will go this way.

When they did the recent J upgrade on the A330, HA stated they went with 2-2-2 in J because, as carrier serving a primarily vacation destination, they see more couples in J upgrading for special occasion trips (honeymoons, etc.), rather than solo business travelers who would prefer a single seat by themselves.

I think 2-2-2 J for a primarily leisure airline like HA is fine. You have to also consider the fact that 787-9 will also operate domestic flights to mainland and premium J layout like 1-2-1 doesn't really help generate extra revenue.

I do hope HA will offer 2-4-2 Y+

One can always hope, I suppose, but HA isn't the airline you fly if what you want is 1-2-1 state of the art business class seating.

China Airlines on the other hand is now flying their A350-900 between HNL and TPE.

Perhaps they could at least design their aisle seats to have arm-rests that can be lowered to ease access to the aisle. But, a bit OT for this thread,

The current 330 product is nice. Sadly, the move to the 321 is a massive step back for folks on the west coast.

The west coast will still get the A330 to some cities. The A321 isn't replacing it completely.

West coast folks should be happy about the A321neo. It will open up options and increase competition for nonstop flights to neighbor islands without having to connect through HNL.

Yes, kind of silly to discuss since it is 2021 before the first one goes into service.
