Hawaiian Airlines Credit Card(s) Discussion Thread (2013-Onward)

The old thread (900 posts) was far too cumbersome and at the suggestion of the Community Director I have concluded it and we'll leave it as an archive.

Going forward, this thread can be used for new and fresh information.

Even better, if someone would like to try his or her hand at creating a Wiki for the thread where information could be updated and consolidated in one easy place, that would be very pono of you

Just waiting to see when Hawaiian Airlines will start a new credit card program.
Their rules say you CANNOT share miles without both people having a HI Credit Card.
What's a person to do?

Only the recipient is required to have the credit card.

I really hope they come up with something soon, my HA Visa is up for renewal in August and I don't want to do without knowing the future.

You can always get the Amex PRG, it transfers to HA.

True and it earns at a higher rate, the downside being the AF is 3x as much. I have the Amex Plat but it doesn't earn points as fast so I am considering PC'ing to a PRG anyway. I have Amex SPG as well and Starpoints transfer to HA. Just trying to consolidate cards and maximize point earnings.

The HA Visa is a terrible card as far as I'm concerned, I'm just curious as to what will become of it...

Number to call to get BOFA HA Biz 35k miles into personal account?

I recently was approved for ha biz card. I got first statement and it seems that 35k miles credited to a different account number from what i entered. I am thinking that this is separate biz freq flyer number from my personal one. Is there a way for me to transfer miles to my personal? I dont know pw to log into biz number.

Demystifying the BofA HA Biz Card

So I recently got the Bank of America Hawaiian Airlines 35k card promotion. Link for it has since gone down.

25% one-time travel discount toward two published full coach round-trip fares between Hawaii and the Mainland on Hawaiian Airlines flights for you and a companion
1 mile for every $1 in retail purchases on everything from gas to restaurants to office supplies
2 miles for every $1 you spend on tickets purchased directly from Hawaiian Airlines and when using your card in-flight on Hawaiian flights
Up to 10 additional HawaiianMiles for every qualifying dollar you spend at participating HawaiianMiles XtraMiles partners
No limit to the number of miles that can be earned each year
Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for Purchases A variable APR currently 13.24%
Other APRs
Non-Check Balance Transfers: A variable APR, currently 13.24%.
Cash Advances and Convenience Checks: A variable APR, currently 24.24%.
Variable Rate Information All APRs (other than your introductory APRs) may vary. They are determined by adding the following margins to the Prime Rate: 9.99% for Purchases and Non-Check Balance Transfers; Prime + 20.99% for Cash Advances and Convenience Checks
Annual Fee For Company level earning plan, $50 for the company and $25 per card.
Grace Period for Purchases At least 25 days from your statement closing date.
Minimum Finance Charge for Purchases $1.00 (unless purchase Average Daily Balance is zero)
Cash Advance Fees 4% of each advance, including Convenience Checks ($10 min). 3% of each advance ($10 min) for Overdraft Protection advances.
Balance Transfer Fee 4% of each Balance Transfer ($10 min).
At first, I thought, "Gee, it's a great deal. With all the links going down, I should get the 35k now. I'll just consolidate the miles to my personal account."

That was a month ago, Statement Just posted today and on my statement from BofA, I noticed that a different HA number was assigned. I called the HA Toll Free number, 1-800-367-5320, and asked to be transferred to HA Miles Specialist. Basically, she told me that the Business HA accounts are entirely separate from the Personal accounts. I could transfer from Personal to Biz but not Biz to Personal. She suggested that I transfer all my personal miles to my biz account. She then asked some questions including my email address, the biz HA FF number, and computer sent me a link to reset the password and enter the new one. I then proceeded to log into my HA Biz Account.

Under the Biz Share tab, I notice that I cannot share miles.

HA Biz Share Tab

I try to search for a booking in November, to see how many miles are charged under Biz account.

HA Biz Award Availability

Hmm...All the flights are 20k each way. There is no 17.5k flights. What happened? Shouldn't I get 17.5k each way with the Biz Card?

I proceeded to log into my Personal account. You have to log with the personal account number if the email used for both personal and biz are the same emails. When logging in with my default email, my biz account is pulled up. To make things simpler, I just put in a new email address to the personal account so I didn't have to remember the account number when logging in.

I check out the share tab under personal account:

HA Personal Share Tab

Great! I can transfer Miles to my Biz account.

I try to share Personal to Biz:

You can't share personal to biz either!

Then I check for November flights from LAX to HNL under personal account:

HA Personal Award Availability

Hmm...17.5k each way.

This lead me to a few conclusions:
1) the 35k that you get from BofA HA Biz card will be deposited to separate account
2) Call the 800 number with the HA biz account number to get access to it
3) You can't transfer anything into or out of the Biz account.
4) You can get the 17.5k mile promotion on personal side but need to pay 20k mile on the business account.

This makes me realize that to make the best use of my biz account, I need to charge another 5k to get 40k miles. 5k = 10 $500 VR = $39.5 additional spend. Uggh. Not what I had in mind.

For those who currently don't have a HA Biz or Personal card, do you see 17.5k or 20k requirements for November? I just have a HA Biz card. I haven't actually tried transferring miles.

Hope this clears up some frustrations for some.

I ran into this exact problem and I ended up purchasing 5K miles in order to be able to use the 35K miles in the biz account. Also, you can't transfer points between biz and personal accounts, believe me I tried. You can't from personal to biz because the biz card does not have that benefit and you can't from biz to personal because a personal account cannot accept biz miles. I have both HA biz and Bank of Hawaii personal cards and I tried every which way I could think of to combine accounts or transfer points between accounts with no luck. I even talked to a supervisor at Hawaiian airlines and made several call to BofA. BofA told me several times that they would put in a request to combine the accounts. I finally found someone there who called HA and found out they could not do this. After the 5K purchase, I used 40K HA miles for a one-way from KOA to PHX on the day after New Years. The ticket would have cost about $700 using cash so I guess it was worth it. I wasn't planning on renewing the biz card, not worth the hassle, but I recall hearing a rep from BofA saying something about 10K on the card's anniversary date so I will wait and see if that happens before deciding.

Yah, biz is too restrictive. Would not get it again. I updated my post to reflect that you can't transfer personal to biz either.

Ran into this same issue. BofA kept trying to process it and HA kept ignoring their request because they don't combine biz and personal accounts. One BofA rep who eventually got the idea that HA wasn't going to combine accounts contacted them and was told that you could apply miles from multiple accounts to one award, but I doubt that it's true. It's really obnoxious that BofA doesn't tell you about this in advance when you apply for the card. Just a total waste of a hard pull.

Thanks for the write up, OP. I am kind of regretting getting this card now... looks like a wasted pull.

I got the personal and business cards just before they were pulled with the intention of transferring them to Hilton at 2 to 1.
I don't think I need all the points to get the award I'm going for, and after reading this it seems like I should keep the personal points if they did not credit my HA account with both bonuses...I do remember giving my HA ff# on both apps, so they should combine ? right?...if not can I transfer the points in the "business account" out to Hilton?
