I'll be in LA from March 24-29. However, I will only have free time on the evening of 28 (Saturday) and possibly 29, Sunday morning for a quick brunch. Would love to hang out with some FT friends in WeHo on the 28 evening if that works for anyone else here.

Are you on NW or CI for TPE-LAX? If NW, don't you have to route through NRT, and isn't it World Business Class, not First? If CI, you could fly nonstop and get First, I believe.

For the return on April 5, I used NWA miles for CI F (BKK-TPE in CI F on old 747, then 10 hours in TPE, then TPE-LAX nonstop on the CI F suites!). Same mileage required for CI F as CI J. Interestingly, it was quite easy to find CI F for the dates I wanted---about a month before travel.
My return for that one is at Xmas, on NW metal MSP-NRT-TPE(NW metal in J), then the following day (less than 24hrs in TPE) TPE-BKK on KL J. Surprisingly good NW J availability around Xmas if you dig around a bit. KE has blackout periods around Xmas, so I'm stuck on NW metal.
The only big problem with finding CI award availability is the HUGE blackout periods:
